Abstract

The convergence capability of interconnected-networking (internet) as new media in globalisation era not only provide facility and comfortable life for human but also new problem in life of family and school that initially established and loaded with moral/norm values. Various facilities and functions can give positive and negative influence in human life. This study aim to examine the influence of internet media attack toward student character. Based on Branson theory (1999:51), Civic Education is one of character education entity and based on Lickona theory (1992:6), character education contain meaning as “moral knowing, moral feeling and moral behaviour” education. In transition era and the rapidity of culture transformation flow today, civic education is character education as “value inculcation means” that teach personal etiquette and civic virtue as something essence toward nation civilization. Research process use “the dominant-less dominant design” pattern with quantitative approach through survey method. Sampling technique that used is multistage random sampling and obtain number of samples as much as 93 students of class XI in Public Senior High School, Cimahi City. Data collection is done by questionnaire, interview, field observation, and documentation study techniques. Data analysis use descriptive analysis, correlation, contribution, double linear regression and simple linear regression analysis. Result of study shows: First, student character is influenced by internet media attack. Information flow from internet media is influential in process to change one’s personality, culture system, values order, life style and behaviour. Second, intensity of usage is influential toward character in terms of self concept, self esteem, and self control in order not become internet addicted that can disrupt personality and impacted on lack of interaction with others in real life. Third, internet media attack with contenment motive is influential toward character in terms of self knowledge, self control and will to do a kindness. Forth, internet media attack with educative motive is influential toward character in terms of self control with habit manner, cultivation, and applied in process of civic education learning, school culture, family, peer group, and mass media. Fifth, intensity of usage with directed contenment and educative motive will produce productive and creative activity, and is influential toward student character as new cognition base for the forming of attitude, disposition, and concept of moral value in self so that realizing technology essence is created to facilitate human in solving their life problems. Kemampuan konvergensi interconnected-networking (internet) sebagai media baru di era globalisasi tidak hanya menghadirkan kemudahan dan kenyamanan hidup bagi manusia akan tetapi juga permasalahan baru kedalam kehidupan keluarga dan sekolah yang semula dibangun dan sarat nilai-nilai moral/norma. Beragam ketersediaan fasilitas dan fungsi perannya dapat menimbulkan pengaruh positif dan negatif dalam kehidupan manusia. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji pengaruh terpaan media internet terhadap karakter siswa. Berdasarkan teori Branson (1999:51) Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan merupakan salah satu wujud pendidikan karakter (character education) dan teori Lickona (1992:6) pendidikan karakter mengandung makna sebagai “ the founders of our democracy asserted, is essensial for the success of democratic society”. Pada masa transisi dan derasnya arus transformasi budaya saat ini, pendidikan kewarganegaraan merupakan pendidikan karakter sebagai “wahana penanaman nilai” yang mengajarkan etika pribadi dan nilai-nilai kebajikan/akhlak kewarganegaraan (civic virtue) sebagai sesuatu yang hakiki menuju peradaban bangsa. Proses penelitian menggunakan pola “the dominant-less dominant design” dengan pendekatan kuantitatif melalui metode survey. Teknik penarikan sampel yang digunakan multistage random sampling dan diperoleh besaran sampel 93 siswa kelas XI di SMA Negeri Kota Cimahi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik kuesioner, wawancara, observasi lapangan, dan studi dokumentasi. Analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif, korelasi, kontribusi, regresi linear ganda dan analisis regresi linear sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: Pertama, Karakter siswa dipengaruhi terpaan media internet. Terpaan informasi global dari media internet berpengaruh dalam proses mengubah kepribadian, sistem budaya, tata nilai, gaya hidup dan perilaku seseorang. Kedua, Intensitas penggunaan media internet berpengaruh terhadap karakter berkenaan dengan konsep diri berupa penilaian tentang diri (self esteem) dan pengendalian diri (self control) agar tidak kecanduan internet yang dapat mengganggu kepribadian dan berdampak pada berkurangnya interaksi antar manusia di kehidupan nyata. Ketiga, Terpaan media internet dengan motif kesenangan berpengaruh terhadap karakter berkenaan dengan kemampuan self knowledge, self control dan will untuk berbuat baik. Keempat, Terpaan media internet melalui motif edukatif berpengaruh terhadap karakter berkenaan dengan self control dengan cara pembiasaan (habit), pembudayaan dan diaplikasikan dalam proses pembelajaran pendidikan kewarganegaraan, kultur sekolah, keluarga, kelompok teman sebaya dan media massa. Kelima, Intensitas penggunaan dengan motif kesenangan dan edukatif yang terarah akan menghasilkan aktivitas produktif, kreatif dan berpengaruh terhadap karakter siswa sebagai landasan kognisi baru bagi terbentuknya sikap, watak dan konsep nilai moral dalam diri sehingga menyadari hakikat teknologi diciptakan untuk memudahkan manusia dalam memecahkan masalah kehidupannya.
