Abstract

Kata kunci: Spirulina platensis, inhibisi enzim α-glukosidase Spirulina platensis is a Cyanophyceae microalgae that resembles spiral-shaped filaments. S. platensis contains primary and secondary metabolites. The type and amount of secondary metabolite compounds of S. platensis are influenced by environmental conditions, type of solvent and extraction method used. This study aims to determine the potential of ethanol extracts, phycocyanin extracts, and non-protein extracts of S. platensis on α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition activity and indication of active compounds contained in extracts with the highest percentage of inhibition. The research method used was inhibition of α-glucosidase enzyme activity in vitro. The results showed that the highest percentage of α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition was non-protein extract of S. platensis at a concentration of 1000 ppm by 1.7% and the compounds contained in non-protein extracts were saponin group compounds. Ethanol extracts, phycocyanin extracts, and non-protein extracts of S. platensis have weak potential as antidiabetics allegedly because the samples are still in the form of crude extracts. Fractionation, isolation and identification of active compounds of S. platensis are needed to carry out various antidiabetic test methods to determine the most effective method in antidiabetic activity. Keywords: Spirulina platensis, inhibition of α-glucosidase
