Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi mengenai kondisi optimum sintesis komposit ZnO/NiO, karakteristik dan kinerjanya dalam fotodegradasi zat warna pada limbah cair. Tahapan penelitian meliputi tahap (1) sintesis ZnO, NiO dan komposit ZnO/NiO menggunakan metode hidrotermal, green ko-presipitasi, dan ultrasonikasi secara berturut-turut dengan optimasi rasio komposisi prekursor, (2) Karakterisasi ZnO, NiO dan komposit ZnO/NiO menggunakan Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X- Ray Difraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM- EDX), Thermographymetric-differential thermal Analysis (TG/DTA), BET N2 physisorption, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) (3) pengujian kinerja komposit ZnO/NiO dalam degradasi fotokatalitik zat warna dan (4) kinerja katalis nanokomposit dalam fotodegradasi zat warna MB, MO, dan RB ditentukan menggunakan UV-VIS spektroskopi. Perhitungan sifat elektronik juga dikaji menggunakan perangkat lunak ORCA dengan metode Density Functional Theory dan data dari materials project menggunakan perangkat lunak VASP dengan run type GGA+U. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ZnO dan NiO telah berhasil disintesis yang terkonfirmasi dengan puncak difraksi khas pada difraktogram X-ray menunjukkan struktur kristal Wurtzite dan kubik, serta element mapping EDX secara berturut-turut. Komposit ZnO/NiO berhasil disintesis pada rasio komposisi massa optimum 1:1 berdasarkan efisiensi degradasi fotokatalisis dengan morfologi struktur kristal gabungan ZnO dan NiO. Selain itu, terjadi peningkatan komposit ZnO/NiO memiliki luas permukaan spesifik yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan oksida logam ZnO. Terjadi peningkatan nilai luas permukaan untuk komposit ZnO/NiO yang berpengaruh pada hasil uji kinerja fotokatalis. Terdapatnya stabilitas termal pada ketiga katalis yang disiapkan dan adanya peningkatan konduktifitas listrik pada ZnO/NiO dibandingkan dengan oksida logam murninya dari data EIS. Selain itu, hasil uji fotokatalisis terbaik diperoleh untuk MB, MO dan RB pada sinar UV-A sekitar 90,23 %, 85,99%, dan 95,07% dan pada sinar UV-C sekitar 89,51 %, 92,37 %, dan 86,35 %. This study aims to obtain information about the optimal conditions for the synthesis of ZnO/NiO composites, their characteristics and performance in photodegradation of dyes in wastewater. The research stages include (1) synthesis of ZnO, NiO and ZnO/NiO composites using hydrothermal, green co-precipitation, and ultrasonication methods sequentially by optimizing the ratio of precursor composition, (2) Characterization of ZnO, NiO and ZnO/NiO composites using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X- Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM- EDX), Thermographymetric-differential thermal Analysis (TG/DTA), BET N2 physisorption and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) (3) testing the performance of ZnO/NiO composites in photocatalytic degradation of dyes and (4) performance of nanocomposite catalysts in photodegradation of MB, MO, and RB dyes were determined using UV-VIS spectroscopy. . The calculation of electronic properties was also studied using ORCA software with Density Functional Theory method and data from material project using VASP software with run type GGA+U. The results showed that ZnO and NiO had been successfully synthesized, which was confirmed by the characteristic diffraction peaks on the X-ray diffractogram showing Wurtzite and cubic crystal structures, as well as sequential mapping of EDX elements. ZnO/NiO composites were successfully synthesized at the optimum mass composition ratio of 1:1 based on the efficiency of photocatalytic degradation with the combined structure morphology of ZnO and NiO. In addition, there was an increase in ZnO/NiO composites having a larger specific surface area compared to ZnO metal oxides. There was an increase in the surface value for the ZnO/NiO composite which affected the results of the photocatalyst performance test. The presence of thermal electricity in the three prepared catalysts and an increase in the electrical conductivity of ZnO/NiO compared to the pure oxide from the EIS data. In addition, the best photocatalytic test results were obtained for MB, MO and RB on UV-A light of around 90.23 %, 85.99%, and 95.07% and on UV-C light of about 89.51%, 92.37 %, and 86.35%.
