Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh penelitian terdahulu yang menyatakan kemampuan argumentasi ilmiah siswa masih rendah. Selain itu, mayoritas kemampuan representasi siswa berada level makroskopik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan argumentasi dan representasi ilmiah siswa sekolah dasar pada materi sanitasi dan air bersih. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 20 siswa dengan teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur kemampuan argumentasi dan representasi ilmiah siswa berupa soal uraian berjumlah 14 soal dengan rincian 11 soal untuk mengukur kemampuan argumentasi ilmiah dan 3 soal untuk mengukur kemampuan representasi ilmiah. Instrumen telah divalidasi dengan proses expert judgment oleh guru sekolah dasar yang telah menempuh pendidikan S2 dan dosen yang ahli pada pendidikan kimia. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa (1) kemampuan argumentasi ilmiah siswa sekolah dasar berada pada level 1-2; (2) Terdapat perbedaan kemampuan argumentasi ilmiah antara siswa laki-laki dan perempuan; (3) Kemampuan representasi ilmiah siswa laki-laki dan perempuan berada pada level makroskopik. Temuan ini dapat digunakan pada penelitian tentang kemampuan argumentasi dan representasi ilmiah selanjutnya terkhusus pada penggunaan model pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan argumentasi dan representasi ilmiah siswa sekolah dasar seperti model ADI (Argument Driven Inquiry), model isu sosiosaintifik, dan model RADEC (Read-Answer-Discuss-Explain-Create). ----- This research is motivated by previous research which states that students' scientific argumentation skills are still low. In addition, the majority of students' representational abilities are at the macroscopic level. This study aims to analyze the argumentation and scientific representation of elementary school students on sanitation and clean water. The research method used is descriptive research with a research subject of 20 students with a sampling technique using purposive sampling. The instrument used to measure students' argumentation and scientific representation skills is in the form of 14 questions, with 11 questions to measure scientific argumentation ability and 3 questions to measure scientific representation ability. The instrument has been validated by an expert judgment process by elementary school teachers who have taken master's degree education and lecturers who are experts in chemistry education. The results of data analysis showed that (1) the scientific argumentation skills of elementary school students were at level 1-2; (2) There are differences in the ability of scientific argumentation between male and female students. The scientific representation ability of male and female students is at a macroscopic level. These findings can be used in research on scientific argumentation and representation skills, especially in the use of learning models that can improve the argumentation and scientific representation skills of elementary school students such as the ADI (Argument Driven Inquiry) model, the socio-scientific issue model, and the RADEC (Read-Answer-Inquiry-Discuss-Explain-Create) model.
