Abstract

Etil asetoasetat (etil 3-oxobutanoat) adalah wewangian berbau mangga muda yang berperan sebagai penyedap rasa, agen antibakteri, dan juga metabolit tanaman. Senyawa etil asetoasetat bisa didapat dari reaksi kondensasi claisen senyawa etil asetat dengan bantuan katalis dalam kondisi basa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kondisi optimum sintesis etil asetoasetat menggunakan katalis alkoksida dari campuran logam natrium dan tersier butanol. Sintesis etil asetoasetat dilakukan menggunakan metode refluks dengan mengubah beberapa variasi seperti suhu reaksi, jumlah logam natrium, dan waktu reaksi. Variasi suhu reaksi dilakukan pada suhu 71℃, 73℃, dan 75℃. Variasi jumlah natrium dilakukan pada jumlah 2,3 gram (0,1 mol); 2,53 gram (0,11 mol); 2,76 gram (0,12 mol); 2,99 gram (0,13 mol); dan 3,22 gram (0,14 mol). Sedangkan untuk variasi waktu reaksi dilakukan selama 30 menit, 60 menit, 90 menit, 120 menit, 150 menit, 180 menit, 210 menit, dan 240 menit. Hasil sintesis dianalisis menggunakan Gass Chromatography (GC) untuk kuantitatif dan Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) untuk kualitatif. Kondisi optimum sintesis etil asetoasetat ditemukan pada kondisi suhu 75℃, dengan jumlah logam natrium sebanyak 2,76 gram (0,12 mol), dan waktu reaksi selama 3 jam. Pada kondisi optimum, senyawa etil asetoasetat dihasilkan sebanyak 80,77%. Ethyl acetoacetate (ethyl 3-oxobutanoate) is a young mango-smelling fragrance that acts as a flavor enhancer, antibacterial agent, and also plant metabolites. Ethyl acetoacetate compounds can be obtained from the Claisen condensation reaction of ethyl acetate compounds with the help of a catalyst under base conditions. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum conditions for the synthesis of ethyl acetoacetate using an alkoxide catalyst from a mixture of sodium metal and tertiary butanol. The synthesis of ethyl acetoacetate was carried out using the reflux method by changing several variations such as reaction temperature, amount of sodium metal, and reaction time. Variation of reaction temperature was carried out at 71℃, 73℃, and 75℃. Variations in the amount of sodium were carried out in the amount of 2.3 grams (0.1 mol); 2.53 grams (0.11 moles); 2.76 grams (0.12 moles); 2.99 grams (0.13 moles); and 3.22 grams (0.14 moles). Meanwhile, the variation of reaction time was carried out for 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes, 150 minutes, 180 minutes, 210 minutes, and 240 minutes. The synthesis results were analyzed using Gas Chromatography (GC) for quantitative and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) for qualitative. The optimum conditions for the synthesis of ethyl acetoacetate were found at a temperature of 75℃, with an amount of sodium metal as much as 2.76 grams (0.12 mol), and a reaction time of 3 hours. At optimum conditions, ethyl acetoacetate compound produced as much as 80.77%.
