Abstract
Pada abad 21 ditandai dengan perkembangan teknologi yang sangat cepat, dengan perkembangan teknologi setiap orang harus memiliki keterampilan 4C. Keterampilan yang salah satunya adalah siswa harus memiliki keterampilan berpikir kritis. Berpikir kritis perlu dimiliki seseorang agar dapat menghadapi dan menyelesaikan permasalahan dengan baik. Pemerintah memberi dukungan melalui Kurikulum 2013 yang mendorong guru untuk dapat mengikut sertakan siswa belajar aktif di kelas. Pendekatan yang dilakukan pun beragam salah satunya dengan menggunakan pendekatan STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics). Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui adanya peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan STEAM dibandingkan dengan siswa yang tidak mendapatkan pendekatan STEAM dan pengaruh pendekatan STEAM terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis pada pembelajaran IPA sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan quasi eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent control grup design. Sampel yang digunakan yaitu siswa kelas V sekolah dasar sebanyak 44 siswa. Instrumen Penelitian menggunakan pretest-posttest, lembar observasi, dan wawancara. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis kelas eksperimen lebih baik dari pada kelas kontrol dengan n-gain kelas eksperimen 0,5069 yang berada pada kategori sedang, sedangkan n-gain kelas kontrol 0,1947 pada kategori rendah. Pembelajaran yang menggunakan pendekatan STEAM terdapat peningkatan lebih baik dibandingkan dengan tidak menggunakan pendekatan STEAM. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendekatan STEAM dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa sekolah dasar. ----- The 21st century is marked rapid fast technological developments, with technological developments, everyone must have 4C skills including critical thinking. Critical thinking needs to be possessed by someone to solve problems well. The government give support in the form of the 2013 Curriculum which encourages teachers to involve students in active learning. There are various approaches, one of which is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) approach. . The purpose of this study was to investigate the improvement of student’s critical thinking skills who experienced the STEAM approach compared to students who did not experienced the STEAM approach and the effect of the STEAM approach on critical thinking skills in elementary school science learning. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample used was 44 students of fifth-grade elementary school. The research instrument used pretest-posttest, observation sheets, and interviews. The results showed that the average posttest of the experimental class was better than the control class and the N-gain score of the experimental class 0,5069 was in the medium category, while the control class 0,1947 was in a low category. This results that learning using the STEAM approach there produce better improvement compared in critical thingking skil as to not using the STEAM approach. It can be concluded that the STEAM approach can improve the critical thinking skills of elementary school students.
