Abstract

Kemampuan numerasi pada materi genetika perlu dimiliki siswa karena pada materi tersebut dijumpai beberapa penerapan prinsip Matematika. Adanya kemampuan numerasi yang baik dapat memudahkan siswa dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan sehingga mampu mencapai kompetensi pada materi genetika. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk menganalisis kemampuan numerasi siswa SMA kelas XII pada materi genetika berdasarkan Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM). Penelitian ini melibatkan 54 siswa sebagai partisipan yang terdiri dari 25 siswa laki-laki dan 29 siswa perempuan. Kemudian, soal genetika bertipe AKM yang berjumlah 30 nomor digunakan pada penelitian ini. Angket turut disebarkan agar respon siswa terhadap soal tes dapat diungkap. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kemampuan numerasi siswa masih rendah. Hal tersebut diduga terjadi karena kurangnya pengalaman siswa terhadap soal bertipe AKM; keterampilan Matematika siswa; pengalaman belajar siswa; dan penguasaan konsep genetika. Selain itu, persepsi siswa yang kurang baik terhadap materi genetika diduga dapat turut menyebabkan tingkat kemampuan numerasi yang rendah. Lalu, pencapaian siswa berdasarkan level kognitif secara berurutan adalah pemahaman, penerapan, dan penalaran. Berdasarkan aspek gender, tingkat kemampuan numerasi siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan tidak berbeda, meskipun rata-rata nilai tes siswa perempuan lebih unggul dibandingkan dengan siswa laki-laki. Ketercapaian indikator kompetensi dasar kurikulum 2013 turut menunjukkan hasil yang belum optimal. Lebih lanjut, siswa berpendapat bahwa soal tes yang diberikan rumit dan sulit, tetapi siswa merasa tertantang untuk menyelesaikan soal tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, peran dari berbagai pihak, seperti pengampu kebijakan, penyelenggara pendidikan, siswa yang bersangkutan, bahkan orang tua siswa sangat diperlukan dalam upaya peningkatkan kemampuan numerasi siswa pada materi genetika. Therefore, a good mastery of numeracy skills could help students to solve genetics problems and achieve genetics competencies. Based on this statement, this study was conducted to analyze the numeracy skills of class XII based on the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM). Fifty-four students were involved as research participants consisting of 25 male and 29 female students. Furthermore, 30 questions were used in this study. Questionnaires were also distributed to reveal the students' responses towards the given test questions. The result indicated that the numeracy skills of class XII were still in the low category due to the lack of experience in solving AKM-type questions, mathematics ability, learning experience, mastery of genetics concepts. Moreover, students' negative perceptions of genetics also cause low numeracy skills. In addition, students’ performance based on the cognitive level was better in understanding than applying and reasoning. Based on the gender aspect, the numeracy skills of male and female students did not differ, although the average test scores of female students were higher than males. The result also showed that students’ achievement of the basic competency in the 2013 curriculum was still not optimal. Furthermore, although students opined that the questions were complicated, they were challenged to solve the questions. Based on the results of this study, the role of policymakers, education providers, students, and parents is needed to improve students' numeracy skills in genetics.
