Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi yang semakin canggih telah mengubah kegiatan komunikasi dalam cara menemukan teman atau pasangan, yakni dengan menggunakan aplikasi kencan online. Salah satu aplikasi kencan online populer adalah Tinder. Popularitas Tinder memberikan kemudahan individu dalam menjalin hubungan dan secara bersamaan menyebabkan potensi terjadinya miskomunikasi. Melalui Tinder, individu dapat dengan mudah berinteraksi dengan pasangan dari berbagai belahan dunia dan budaya. Karena berkomunikasi secara online berbeda jika dibandingkan dengan komunikasi tatap muka sehingga rentan terjadi miskomunikasi dan konflik yang terjadi karena perbedaan budaya. Kurangnya isyarat nonverbal, seperti tidak bisa melihat atau mendengar satu sama lain, juga membuat komunikasi menjadi lebih sulit. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui seberapa signifikan pengaruh perbedaan budaya (X) terhadap miskomunikasi pada aplikasi kencan online (Y). Adapun teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Teori Pengembangan Hubungan (The Relationship Development Models) yang dicetuskan oleh Mark Knapp. Teori ini menggambarkan lima fase yang akan dialami pasangan selama pengembangan hubungan mereka, dan lima fase di mana hubungan itu berakhir. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif korelasional dengan teknik penyebaran kuesioner kepada 100 responden pengguna aplikasi kencan online Tinder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua variabel secara simultan memiliki derajat hubungan sebesar 0,535 dengan tingkat korelasi sedang yang berarti cukup kuat. The development of increasingly sophisticated technology has changed communication activities in how to find friends or mates, namely by using online dating applications. One of the popular online dating apps is Tinder. The popularity of Tinder makes it easy for individuals to build relationships and at the same time creates the potential for miscommunication. Through Tinder, individuals can easily interact with partners from different parts of the world and cultures. Because communicating online is different when compared to face-to-face communication, it is vulnerable to miscommunication and conflicts that occur due to cultural differences. Lack of nonverbal cues, such as not being able to see or hear each other, also makes communication more difficult. The purpose of this study was to determine how significant the influence of cultural differences (X) on miscommunication in online dating (Y). The theory used in this research is the Theory of Relationship Development (The Relationship Development Models) which was coined by Mark Knapp. This theory describes five phases that a couple will go through during the development of their relationship and the five phases in which the relationship ends. The method used is quantitative correlation with the technique of distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents using the Tinder online dating application. The results showed that the two variables simultaneously had a degree of relationship of 0,535 with a moderate level of correlation which means it is quite strong.
