    Abstract

    Lesson planning and its implementation in actual classroom practices contribute to quality of learning. This qualitative case study attempted to investigate a teacher’s lesson plan and its implementation in the teaching of a procedure text. More specifically, this study analyzed how the EFL teacher formulated a lesson plan based on genre perspective and how the genre-based lesson plan informed the EFL teacher in her teaching. This study involved one purposefully-selected EFL teacher from a public junior high school who had been using genre based approach in her teaching, and relied on her lesson plan, interviews, and classroom observation as sources of data. The analysis of the data involved systematic coding with the principles of genre based perspective, The analysis revealed that the teacher included the four stages of genre-based approach in her lesson plan: building knowledge of the field (BKOF), modelling of the text (MOT), joint construction of the text (JCOT), and independence construction of the text (ICOT) with minimum capacity in including and elaborating some of indicators as included in genre-based approach. The findings imply that teacher played a crucial role in making sense of genre based approach and put her understanding into pedagogical practices. A variety of ways in implementing genre based approach may occur as teacher possesss different degree of understanding the pedagogical concepts of Genre-based approach.
