Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya penguasaan kosakata siswa tunarungu tingkat dasar, dimana kemampuan penguasaan kosakata ini merupakan salah satu prasyarat untuk keterampilan berbahasa, berinteraksi dan berkomunikasi. Penyebab dari permasalahan ini adalah ketidaktepatan penggunaan media pembelajaran yang dirasa kurang memfasilitasi siswa untuk memahami kosakata yang diberikan guru pada saat proses belajar mengajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan menciptakan pengembangan media pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan penguasaan kosakata siswa tunarungu tingkat dasar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian Mix Method dengan desain dan analisis data secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif, melibatkan 6 subjek penelitian. Desain dan analisis data kualitatif meliputi dua data deskriptif yaitu 1) mengenai kemampuan penguasaan kosakata siswa tuanrungu kelas dasar baik secara umum maupun siswa tunaurngu yang menjadi subjek penelitian, 2) mengenai media yang digunakan siswa tuanrungu, sedangkan data kuantitatif mengulas mengenai sejauh mana keefektifan hasil pengukuran dari pengembangan media pembelajaran yang diciptakan peneliti. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa : (1) sebagian besar siswa tunarungu tingkat dasar memiliki penguasaan kosakata yang rendah,sehingga pengembangan media pembelajaran perlu diciptakan sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa di lapangan. (2) penggunaan pengembangan media kartu gambar isyarat terbukti dapat meningkatkan kemampuan penguasaan siswa tunarungu tingkat dasar yang menjadi subjek penelitian. Implikasinya adalah pengembangan media kartu gambar isyarat ini dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif media pembelajaran siswa tunarungu tingkat dasar untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata baik di sekolah maupun di rumah, selain itu diperlukannya penelitian lanjutan yang difokuskan kepada upaya peningkatan penguasaan kosakata siswa tunarungu. Kata Kunci : Pengembangan Media Kartu Gambar Isyarat, Penguasaan Kosakata Siswa Tunarungu Tingkat Dasar The research was prompted by the low vocabulary mastery among elementary-level hearing-impaired students, where this ability of vocabulary mastery is one of the prerequisites of language skills, interaction and communication, and it has an impact on students’ learning achievements. One of the causes of this problem is the inadequate use of instructional media that are thought to be inaptly facilitating students to understand the vocabulary given by teachers during the teaching and learning process. The research aimed to develop instructional media to improve the ability of vocabulary mastery among elementary-level hearing-impaired students. The research method employed was qualitative approach using mix method.The design and analysis of data were done qualitatively and quantitatively by involving 6 research subjects. The qualitative design and analysis involved: 1) The ability of vocabulary mastery of elementary-level hearing-impaired students in general and the hearing-impaired students who became the subjects of this research;and 2) the media used by hearing-impaired students.Meanwhile, the quantitative data revealed the effectiveness of measurement results of the instructional media development. Based on the research results, it is found that: 1) The majority of elementary-level hearing-impaired students had low vocabulary mastery, especially concerning the expressive language, such as nouns, so that instructional media development had to be created according to the student’s actual needs; 2) The development of gesture drawing card media was proven to improve the vocabulary mastery of elementary-level hearing-impaired students. The implication of this research is that the gesture drawing cards can be used as an alternative instructional medium for elementary-level hearing-impaired students to improve their vocabulary mastery, both at school and at home; in addition, there needs to be further research focused on the efforts to improve vocabulary mastery of hearing-impaired students.
