Abstract

Etil asetoasetat merupakan bahan parfum yang memiliki bau seperti buah mangga muda. Sintesis etil asetoasetat merupakan reaksi kondensasi Claisen antara dua molekul etil asetat dengan basa kuat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi optimum pembentukan senyawa etil asetoasetat dengan menggunakan katalis natrium etoksida. Sintesis etil asetoasetat dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode refluks dengan penangas minyak. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan variasi suhu, variasi komposisi etanol terhadap etil asetat dengan perbandingan mol 0,5 : 2; 1 : 2; dan 1,5 : 2. Selain itu juga dilakukan variasi jumlah logam natrium sebanyak 0,05 mol, 0,1 mol, dan 0,15 mol serta variasi waktu reaksi selama 0,5 sampai 4 jam. Analisis hasil sintesis dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen GC (Gas Chromatography) dan GC-MS (Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan komposisi optimum pereaksi etanol : etil asetat yang ditambahkan untuk sintesis etil asetoasetat yaitu pada perbandingan 1 : 2 mol, pereaksi etanol sebanyak 5,830 mL (0,1 mol) dan etil asetat sebanyak 17,85 mL (0,2 mol), dengan jumlah natrium sebesar 0,1 mol (2,3 gram) pada suhu 82 oC dan waktu reaksi selama 2 jam. Hasil analisis GC menunjukkan konversi produk hasil sebesar 91,55%. Ethyl acetoacetate is a perfume ingredient that smells like young mango. The synthesis of ethyl acetoacetate is a Claisen condensation reaction between two molecules of ethyl acetate with a strong base. This study aims to determine the optimum conditions for the formation of ethyl acetoacetate compound using sodium ethoxide as a catalyst. The synthesis of ethyl acetoacetate was carried out using the reflux method with an oil bath. This research was conducted with variations in temperature, composition of ethanol to ethyl acetate with a mole ratio of 0.5: 2; 1:2; and 1.5 : 2. In addition, the amount of sodium metal were carried out as much as 0.05 mol, 0.1 mol, and 0.15 mol as well as variations in reaction time for 0.5 to 4 hours. The analysis of the product was carried out using GC (Gas Chromatography) and GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) instruments. The results showed that the optimum composition of ethanol: ethyl acetate reagent for the synthesis of ethyl acetoacetate was at a ratio of 0.1: 0.2 mol, the volume of ethanol was 5.830 mL (0.1 mol) and ethyl acetate was 17.85 mL (0, 2 moles), with the amount of sodium 0.1 mol (2.3 grams) at a temperature of 82 oC and a reaction time of 2 hours. The results of the GC analysis showed that the conversion of the product yield was 91.55%.
