Abstract
This research is motivated by the ability to read comprehension found in fourth grade students, namely students who have not been able to understand reading texts and students' low reading skills. The purpose of this research is to determine the ability of reading comprehension and the factors that cause difficulties in reading comprehension of fourth grade students. The research method used is a case study with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were 3 fourth grade elementary school students. Data obtained by interviews, tests, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it was shown that the fourthgrade students had low reading comprehension skills. The following can be seen from the aspects of understanding used by researchers, namely: Literal Understanding, Reorganization Understanding, Inferential Understanding, Evaluation Understanding and Appreciation Understanding. It can be proven that subject 1 FS is only able to fulfill 3 aspects of understanding, namely literal understanding, inferential understanding and evaluative understanding. Subject 2 IQ was able to fulfill 1 aspect of understanding, namely literal understanding. And finally, the subject of 3 AR has not been able to meet the indicators. These results can conclude that the reading comprehension ability of grade IV students is somewhat lacking and still needs guidance.
