Abstract

The aim of the study was to describe how the Flipgrid is used in speaking class and how it supports the students' speaking skills. Utilizing a case study, the present research involved twenty-one students of the Department of English Education in a public university in Bandung, West Java. The data were obtained from students’ speaking videos and transcripts of focus group discussions (FGD). The students speaking videos were analyzed using one of the existing speaking rubrics which are available with several modifications. The results indicated that using Flipgrid can support students’ speaking skills in several aspects, such as fluency, pronunciation, and grammar. The use of feedback features in Flipgrid allows students to focus more on aspects of their speaking that can be improved. After receiving feedback from the lecturer and their peers, students can check the grammar and listen to the correct pronunciation before recording the videos. Moreover, students claimed the platform was easy to use and helped them practice speaking more.
