Abstract
Pemahaman relasional merupakan kemampuan peserta didik dalam memahami suatu konsep dengan mengetahui alasan penggunaan suatu prosedur pengerjaan dalam menyelesaikan suatu permasalahan matematika dengan melibatkan suatu konsep dengan konsep lainnya. Pada pengembangan kemampuan pemahaman relasional, self-esteem memiliki peranan penting dalam menumbuhkan kepercayaan diri siswa terhadap kemampuannya sehingga mereka akan berusaha menyelesaikan berbagai permasalahan matematika dengan sebaik-baiknya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh deskripsi mengenai kemampuan pemahaman relasional siswa ditinjau dari tingkat self-esteem. Dengan dilaksanakannya penelitian ini diharapkan akan memperoleh informasi mengenai deskripsi kemampuan pemahaman relasional siswa sehingga selanjutnya dapat dilakukan upaya perbaikan pada pembelajaran matematika dengan turut mempertimbangkan tingkat self-esteem pada masing-masing siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi. Subjek pada penelitian ini merupakan siswa kelas XI di salah satu sekolah menengah atas di Kabupaten Bandung. Dari hasil kategorisasi tingkat self-esteem, dipilih masing-masing 3 subjek berdasarkan tingkat self-esteem tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah tes kemampuan pemahaman relasional, skala self-esteem matematis, dan wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, diperoleh hasil bahwa siswa dengan tingkat self-esteem tinggi mampu mencapai dua dari empat indikator kemampuan pemahaman relasional. Sedangkan siswa dengan tingkat self-esteem sedang dan rendah secara berurutan mampu mencapai tiga indikator dan satu indikator kemampuan pemahaman relasional. Relational understanding is the students' ability to understand a concept by knowing the reasons about work procedure used in solving a mathematical problem by involving a concept with other concepts. In order to development of relational understanding ability, self-esteem play key roles in growing students' confidence in their abilities so that they will make an effort to solve mathematical problems as well as possible. This study aims to obtain a description of the student's relational understanding ability in terms of the level of self-esteem. As implementation of this study, it is expect to obtain information about the description of students' relational understanding abilities so that further efforts can be made to improve mathematics learning by considering taking into the level of self-esteem in each student. This study uses qualitative approach with a phenomenological methods. The subjects of this study were eleventh grade students at one of the senior high school in Bandung District. From the categorization of levels self-esteem, 3 subjects were selected based on their self-esteem high, medium, and low levels. The data collection techniques used in this study were a test of relational understanding ability, a scale of mathematical self-esteem, and interviews. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that students with high levels of self-esteem were able to achieve two of the four indicators of relational understanding ability. Meanwhile, students with levels of self-esteem medium and low were able to achieve three indicators and one indicator of relational understanding ability, respectively.
