Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper is entitled An Analysis of Methods and Procedures of Translation in Quick Reference Compaq Notebook PC. The research was aimed to find out the translation methods and procedures in Quick Reference Compaq Notebook PC. It is based on descriptive qualitative method. Random sampling method by Fraenkell and Wallen (1993) was applied to select a hundred samples from 494 sentences found in the text. The data were interpreted, analyzed, and categorized based on Newmark’s translation methods and procedures (1988). The findings were as follow. Communicative translation becomes the most frequent method applied in translating the text because it is an appropriate method to translate vocative text. Then, transference is the most frequent procedure applied because there are many terms and words which are the names of invention, brands, devices, and acronyms. The methods and the procedures applied in translating the Quick Reference Compaq Notebook PC were appropriately used.
