Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini berjudul “Arogansi Tokoh Utama dalam Legenda Gunung Geulis di Kecamatan Baleendah Kabupaten Bandung”. Legenda Gunung Geulis adalah legenda setempat yang menggambarkan perilaku arogan tokoh utama yakni Bakit Culah saat menginginkan seseorang untuk dijadikan istri yang ditunjukkan melalui sikap dan tindakannya pada saat mengajak Si Geulis untuk menikah hingga kegagalannya menikahi Si Geulis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap arogansi tokoh utama yang melakukan tindakan brutal saat gagal mendapatkan Si Geulis berdasarkan analisis struktur, proses penciptaan, proses pewarisan, konteks penuturan, fungsi, dan makna. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan folklor modern. Data didapat dari tuturan lisan tiga masyarakat Kecamatan Baleendah yang berasal dari Kelurahan Manggahang, Kelurahan Jelekong, dan Kelurahan Baleendah. Ketiga data yang telah didapat tersebut kemudian diolah dengan dilakukan transkripsi dan transliterasi. Selanjutnya ketiga data dilakukan analisis berdasarkan aspek analisis struktur naratif Todorov, proses penciptaan, proses pewarisan, konteks situasi, fungsi, dan makna. Berdasarkan penelitian terhadap ketiga cerita, didapati hasil sebagai berikut; 1) kearoganan tokoh utama yakni tokoh Bakit Culah yang ditunjukkan dalam struktur teks, 2) proses penciptaan cerita terjadi secara terstruktur hafalan dan spontan, 3) proses pewarisan cerita dilakukan secara vertikal yakni turun-temurun, 4) fungsi cerita adalah sebagai sistem proyeksi keinginan terpendam, alat pendidikan, alat pengesah kebudayaan, dan pemaksa berlakunya norma di masyarakat, dan 5) makna perilaku arogan atau kearoganan Bakit Culah ditunjukkan melaui sikap dan tindakannya saat mengajak menikah kepada Si Geulis, cara melamar si Geulis, dan tindakan brutalnya setelah lamarannya ditolak oleh Si Geulis. ABSTRACK This research entitled "Arrogance of the Main Character in the Legend of Mount Geulis in Baleendah District, Bandung Regency". The legend of Gunung Geulis is a local legend that describes the arrogant behavior of the main character, Bakit Culah, when he wanted someone to be his wife, which was shown through his attitude and actions when he invited Si Geulis to marry until his failure to marry Si Geulis. This study aims to reveal the arrogance of the main character who commits brutal acts when he fails to get Si Geulis based on structural analysis, creation process, inheritance process, narrative context, function, and meaning. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method with modern folklore approach. The data were obtained from the oral utterances of three people of Baleendah District who came from Manggahang Village, Jelekong Village, and Baleendah Village. The three data that have been obtained are then processed by transcription and transliteration. Furthermore, the three data were analyzed based on the aspects of Todorov's narrative structure analysis, the creation process, the inheritance process, the context of the situation, function, and meaning. Based on research on the three stories, the following results were found: 1) the arrogance of the main character, namely the character Bakit Culah, which is shown in the text structure, 2) the process of story creation occurs in a rote and spontaneous structure, 3) the process of story inheritance is carried out vertically from generation to generation, 4) the function of the story is as a projection system of hidden desires, an educational tool, validates culture, and the enforcement of norms in society, and 5) the meaning of arrogant behavior or arrogance of Bakit Culah is shown through his attitude and actions when asking for marriage to Si Geulis, how to apply the Geulis, and his brutal actions after his proposal was rejected by Si Geulis.
