Abstract

ABSTRAK Sistem pendingin merupakan salah satu sistem yang sangat dibutuhkan pada Motor Diesel atau Diesel Engine. Jika suatu engine tidak dilengkapi dengan sistem pendingin, kemungkinan akan terjadi kerusakan pada komponen engine tersebut. Kerusakan itu akan berakibat fatal, seperti terjadinya kebengkokan pada kepala silinder yang disebabkan over heat ataupun berbagai hal lainnya. Sistem pendingin tentu saja menjadi penting karena fungsinya sebagai pengambil dan pengalih panas dari objek yang didinginkan yaitu engine. Sistem pendingin mempunyai dua media pendingin, yaitu sistem pendingin udara dan sistem pendingin air. Umumnya sistem pendingin engine pada alat berat menggunakan media air karena sistem pendingin air mempunyai banyak kelebihan, diantaranya yaitu engine akan lebih aman karena engine dikelilingin air yang berada diantara mantel air (water jacket), yang juga memiliki tugas sebagai peredam suara. Dipandang dari segi pemanfaatan energi termal gas pembakaran, proses pendinginan itu merupakan kerugian energi. Hanya 25 –40 % saja dari energi termal tersebut yang dapat diubah menjadi energi mekanik, sebanyak 20 –25 % diserap oleh fluida pendingin, sedangkan kira kira 40 –50 % terbawa ke luar bersama gas buang. (Wiranto. A, 1988:56) Pada engine Pindad Excava 200 sering terjadi over heat yang diakibatkan karena sistem pendingin tidak bekerja secara optimal. Kata kunci: pendingin, kalor, diesel engine. ABSTRACT Cooling system is one of the most needed systems in a Diesel Engine. If an engine is not equipped with a cooling system, damage to the engine components may occur. The damage will have fatal consequences, such as bending of the cylinder head due to overheating or various other things. Cooling system is of course important because of its function as a heat gain and transfer from the object being cooled, namely the engine. Cooling system has two cooling media, namely an air cooling system and a water cooling system. Generally, the engine cooling system on heavy equipment uses water media because the water cooling system has many advantages, including the engine being safer because the engine is surrounded by water between the water jacket, which also has a duty as a sound damper. In terms of utilization of combustion gas thermal energy, the cooling process is an energy loss. Only 25–40% of this thermal energy can be converted into mechanical energy, as much as 20–25% is absorbed by the cooling fluid, while about 40–50% is carried out with the exhaust gas. (Wiranto. A, 1988: 56) On the Pindad Excava 200 engine overheats often occur due to the cooling system not working optimally. Keyword: cooling, heat, diesel engine.
