Abstract

This research is motivated by the difficulty experienced by students in demonstrating and communicating the results of the demonstration. This phenomenon is due to the lack of use and preparation of Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) or student worksheet as one of the guides in supporting students’ learning experiences. The objective of this study is to investigate the design and expediency of a Predict-Observe-Explain (POE)-based LKPD in developing 4th-grade students’ science process. This research employed the Delphi method with a qualitative approach. The thematic LKPD of sub-theme Lingkungan Tempat Tinggalku was the focus of this study. The result of this present comparative research shows that the use of POE-based LKPD is very accurate for facilitating 4th-grade students’ science process skills. However, it is found that 4 out of 5 LKPD used in schools have neither interactive language, questions that attract discussion, nor goals and indicators of competency achievement. Meanwhile, LKPD is constructed to assist students in developing their thinking process through direct activities that will enrich their learning experiences. This study concludes that therefore it is necessary to design the LKPD based on prediction, observation, and explanation which directly involves students in developing learning experience to potentially support students’ science process skills.
