Abstract
Problem-solving skills as one of the 21st century skills can be facilitated by implementing Team-Based Learning (TBL) model. The purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of TBL within to improve the ability of problem-solving skills of junior high school students in learning the addictive substances. The reason of this study was to optimalized core competency 3.6 and 4.6 about addictive substances by using TBL model. This study was carried out using non-equivalent control group design from quasy experimental method. Samples were students in VIIIth grade, there were 32 students in experimental class and 30 students in control class were selected by means of purposive sampling. Students’ problem-solving skills were assessed by essay form test. The implementation of TBL syntax was observed by using observation form. Students’ responses toward TBL was collected by using questionnaire. There were four indicators of students’ problem-solving measured, i.e. identifying the problem, analyzing the problem, formulating the alternative solutions, and determining the best solution. Pre-test was given to both control and experimental class before the lesson began, whereas post-test was given in the last meeting of the lesson. The results showed that the implementation of TBL can increased the students’ problem-solving skills. The students’ problem-solving skills showed N-Gain in medium level, which was valued at 0,66. Most of the TBL syntax were excellently conducted and the findings also showed most students have positive response to TBL especially on interests in learning biology.
