Abstract

Modeling based learning (MbL) dalam pembelajaran sains merupakan suatu pendekatan pembelajaran ketika siswa sendiri yang membangun model fenomena ilmiahnya. Diharapkan pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan MbL ini dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir dan pemahaman siswa terutama untuk konsep biologi yang abstrak seperti sistem saraf manusia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen, dengan desain penelitian pretest postest control group design yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pendekatan pembelajaran MbL terhadap peningkatan level berpikir dan kemampuan siswa SMA dalam membangun representasi jejaring proposisi serta menganalisis hubungan antara level berpikir dengan kemampuan membangun representasi jejaring proposisi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa SMA kelas XI di salah satu SMA Swasta di Kota Bandung dengan teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling. Level berpikir siswa diukur menggunakan soal-soal yang dikembangkan dari taksonomi baru Marzano dan Kendall sedangkan kemampuan representasi jejaring proposisi diukur menggunakan rubrik penilaian berdasarkan pemrosesan informasi Marzano. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran menggunakan pendekaan MbL mampu meningkatkan level berpikir siswa sampai level tiga (analisis). MbL juga dapat memfasilitasi siswa untuk merepresentasikan konsep sistem saraf manusia dengan lebih baik. Hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukkan terdapat korelasi yang positif dan signifikan antara level berpikir dengan kemampuan siswa dalam membangun representasi jejaring proposisi. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, dapat dinyatakan bahwa MbL dapat menjadi alternatif pembelajaran biologi sehingga kemampuan berpikir dan pemahaman konsep siswa mengalami peningkatan terutama dalam konsep sistem saraf manusia. LEARNING HUMAN NERVOUS SYSTEM USING MODELING BASED LEARNING (MbL) FOR IMPROVING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ THINKING LEVEL AND PROPOSITION NETWORK REPRESENTATION ABSTRACT Modeling based learning (MbL) in learning science is a learning approach when the student, himself, forms his own phenomenal scientific model. It is expected that a learning process using this Mbl approach can be an alternative to improve student’s thinking ability and understanding, especially for an abstract biology concept such as human nervous system. This study is a quasi experiment, pretest posttest control group design, whose purpose to analyze the effect of Mbl learning approach to the improvement of Senior high school student’s thinking level and ability in forming a proposition network representation, also to analyze the relationship between thinking level and the ability to form a proposition network representation. The subjects of this study are XI grade students from one private Senior High School in Bandung, who are chosen using purposive sampling technique. Student’s thinking level is measured using questions developed from Marzano and Kendall’s new taxonomy, while the ability of proposition network representation is measured using the assessment rubric based on Marzano’s information processing. The data analysis result shows that a learning using Mbl approach is able to improve student’s thinking level to level 3 (analysis). Mbl could also facilitated student to represent a better concept of human nervous system. The result of this study also shows a significant and positive correlation between student’s thinking level and his ability to form a proposition network representation. Based on the result, Mbl can be declared to be a biology learning alternative so that students’ thinking ability and concept understanding could improved especially in human nervous system concept.
