Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kemampuan siswa dalam menulis scientific explanations pada materi sistem pernapasan dengan menggunakan struktur Premise-Reasoning-Outcome. Terdapat tiga kategori kemampuan scientific explanations siswa yaitu Basic, Intermediate, dan Advanced. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan penelitian quasy experiment dengan desain Non-Equivalent Control Group. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling yang dilakukan di Sekolah Menengah Atas di Kabupaten Bandung. Dua kelas digunakan dalam penelitian ini, XI MIA 1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan XI MIA 3 sebagai kelas kontrol. Intrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah tes tertulis berupa soal uraian untuk mengukur kemampuan siswa dalam menulis scientific explanations dan non tes berupa angket untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap penggunaan struktur PRO terhadap kemampuan scientific explanations. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh pada penggunaan struktur PRO terhadap kemampuan siswa menulis scientific explanations. Pada kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan struktur PRO menunjukkan hasil persentase N-gain lebih tinggi yaitu sebesar 68% sementara kelas kontrol dengan pembelajaran konvensional persentase N-gain sebesar 52%. Berdasarkan persentase peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis scientific explanations setiap kategori, kelas eksperimen menunjukkan nilai yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Pada kelas eksperimen persentase penurunan kategori Basic sebesar 49% sementara pada kelas kontrol sebesar 26%. Pada kategori Intermediate kelas eksperimen mengalami peningkatan sebesar 30% sementara pada kelas kontrol peningkatan hanya sebesar 15%. Pada kategori Advanced peningkatan pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 40% sementara pada kelas kontrol peningkatan sebesar 29%. Maka, dapat disimpulkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis scientific explanations kelas eksperimen lebih meningkat daripada kelas kontrol dan menunjukkan penggunaan struktur PRO berpengaruh pada kemampuan scientific explanations. The purpose of this research was to analyze student’s written scientific explanations on respiratory system using Premise-Reasoning-Outcome Structure. There are three categories on scientific explanations, those are Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. This research was conducted with quasy experiment and Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. Samples were taken using purposive sampling in a Senior High School. Two classes were used, XI MIA 1 as experimental group and XI MIA 3 as control group. The instrument that used were written test which was essays to determine student’s written scientific explanations and non-test which was questionnaires to obtain student’s responses to the use of PRO structure on scientific explanations. The result showed that there was an effect on the use of PRO structure on student’s written scientific explanations. The final score in experimental group, which was using PRO structure showed higher score than in control group’s which was using conventional learning. The percentage of N-Gain score for experimental group was 68% while for control group was 52%. Moreover, based on the increase percentage on each scientific explanations categories, in experimental group showed higher score than the score in control group. In experimental group the decrease on the Basic category was 49% while in control group was 26%. The Intermediate category in experimental group increased as 30% while in control group, the increasing was 15%. The Advanced category in experimental group increased as 40% while in control group was 29%. Therefore, the conclusion was the ability of student’s written scientific explanations in experimental group was more increasing than control group and showed that the use of PRO structure was effective on scientific explanations.
