Abstract

Anak dengan hambatan kecerdasan sedang memiliki keterlambatan perkembangan jika dibandingkan dengan anak-anak pada umumnya dengan usia yang sama, salah satunya keterlambatan dalam perkembangan komunikasi. Misalnya, anak mengalami kesulitan mengungkapkan maksud dengan cara verbal kepada orang lain sehingga maksud yang disampaikan anak terdengar tidak jelas atau sulit dipahami oleh lawan komunikasi anak, hal tersebut menyebabkan komunikasi tidak berjalan dengan efektif. Sistem komunikasi augmentatif dan alternatif hadir sebagai upaya untuk mengatasi permasalahan dalam berkomunikasi pada anak dengan hambatan kecerdasan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan sistem komunikasi augmentatif dan alternatif serta menguji efektivitasnya pada anak dengan hambatan kecerdasan sedang. Menggunakan penelitian campuran (Mixed Methode) dengan desain peneltian exploratory sequential. Penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga tahapan, tahap pertama untuk mengetahui profil perlembangan komunikasi subjek, tahap kedua untuk mengembangkan sistem komunikasi augmentatif dan alternatif yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan subjek yakni pertukaran gambar dengan benda aslinya, tahap ketiga adalah tahap menguji efektivitas dari sistem komunikasi augmentatif dan alternatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanyapeningkatan kemampuan anak dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan pertukaran gambar untuk menyampaikan keinginannya. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa sistem komunikasi augmentatif dan alternatif ini dapat membantu komunikasi anak dengan hambatan kecerdasan. Children with moderete intellectual disability have a developmental delay when compared with children in general with the same age, one of which is a delay in the development of communication. For example, children have difficulty expressing their intentions verbally to others so that the intentions conveyed by children sound unclear or difficult to understand by opponents of child communication, this causes communication to not work effectively. Augmentative and alternative communication systems are present as an effort to overcome communication problems in children with intellectual impairments. The aim of this study is to develop augmentative and alternative communication systems and test their effectiveness in children with moderate intelligence. Using mixed method with exploratory sequential design, this research consists of three stages, the first stage is to find out the profile of subject communication development, the second stage is to develop augmentative and alternative communication systems that suit the needs of the subject, namely the exchange of images with original objects, the third stage is testing the effectiveness of augmentative and alternative communication systems. The results of the study show there is an increase in the ability of children to communicate using an exchange of images to convey their desires. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that this augmentative and alternative communication system can help communication children with intelligence barriers.
