Abstract

Kemampuan surat kabar untuk membentuk opini publik dan mempengaruhi agenda kebijakan menjadikan surat kabar sebagai sumber informasi yang penting. Peliputan sebuah isu di surat kabar yang memiliki space terbatas bila dibandingkan dengan media lain akan membuat masyarakat lebih mudah menyadari urgensi dari isu tersebut. Isu pendidikan di Indonesia sendiri sebenarnya sangat berpengaruh besar kepada masyarakat. Akan tetapi memberitaan terhadap isu pendidikan seringkali hanya mengangkat berita-berita yang sedang populer saja tanpa membahas isu-isu mendalam yang sebenarnya lebih berpengaruh dalam menentukan kualitas pendidikan di Indonesia. Penelitian ini berusaha untuk mengetahui bagaimana media menggambarkan isu pendidikan dengan penonjolan berita (salience) dan atribut isu sebagai konsep utamanya. Sedangkan indikator yang dipakai untuk menjabarkan kedua konsep tersebut adalah isu, penyajian, penempatan, citra, jangkauan dan sumber berita. Penelitian ini sendiri menggunakan metode analisis isi kuantitatif, dimana data dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap media surat kabar Kompas selama 4 bulan (Februari-Mei 2017). Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa isu utama yang diangkat surat kabar Kompas adalah isu-isu terkait UNBK, profesi pendidik dan juga pendidikan vokasi. Selain itu surat kabar kompas juga lebih sering mengangkat isu pendidikan dalam format (straight news) pada rubric Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan dengan panjang sedang dan lebih mengutamakan pemerintah terutama Kemendikbud sebagai sumber berita. The ability of newspapers to shape public opinion and influence the policy agenda makes the newspaper an important source of information. Covering an issue in a newspaper that has limited space when compared to other media, and it will make it easier for people to realize the urgency of the issue. The issue of education in Indonesia itself is actually very influential to the community. However, reporting on the issues often only raises the popular news without discussing in-depth issues that are actually more influential in determining the quality of education in Indonesia. This research seeks to find out how the media describes educational issues with salience and issue attributes as the main concept. While the indicators used to describe the two concepts are issue theme, issue presentation, issue placement, issue image, issue scope and the sources. This research itself uses quantitative content analysis method, where data is analyzed using descriptive statistics. This research was conducted on Kompas newspaper for 4 months (February-May 2017). The results of this study concluded that the main issues raised by the Kompas newspaper were issues related to UNBK, the teaching profession and also vocational education. In addition the compass newspaper also often raises the issue of education in the format (straight news) in the rubric of Education and Culture in the medium term and prioritizes the government, especially the Ministry of Education and Culture as a news source
