Abstract

Bahasa Inggris selalu diidentikkan dengan pembelajaran yang hanya terfokus pada mentransfer ketrampilan dan pengetahuan berbahasa Inggris. Untuk mendukung Program Pendidikan Karakter yang diinisiasi pemerintah, harus ada upaya yang serius untuk mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Studi ini merupakan sebuah upaya untuk mengembangkan sebuah model pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang bukan hanya dapat mentransfer ketrampilan dan pengetahuan berbahasa Inggris, tetapi juga dapat mentransfer nilai-nilai, khususnya untuk konteks ini, kesadaran jender. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, sebuah metode riset dan pengembangan atau yang disebut juga dengan metode R & D digunakan di sini untuk mengembangkan sintak pembelajaran PBL menjadi Model Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Perspektif Gender (MPBIPG), sebuah model pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kesadaran gender mahasiswa. Penelitian pengembangan ini dilaksanakan di UIN Ar-Raniry. Subyek penelitian studi ini adalah semua mahasiswa calon guru bahasa Inggris Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Keguruan UIN Ar-Raniry, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Untuk melihat keefektifan model pembelajaran tersebut, Two Way Anova digunakan. Penemuan utama dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan kesadaran gender mahasiswa untuk kelas eksperimen maupun kontrol, baik itu untuk aspek kognitif, afektif, psychomotorik, maupun perspektif gendernya. Akan tetapi, ketika dibandingkan keduanya, ditemukan bahwa peningkatan untuk kelas eksperiment jauh lebih besar. Hasil tes signifikansi menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan kesadaran gender mahasiswa kelas eksperimen utk semua aspek (kognitif, afektif, psychomotorik, maupun perspektif gender) sebagai hasil dari menggunakan Model Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Perspektif Gender (MPBIPG). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa Model tersebut jauh lebuh efektif dalam meningkatkan kesadaran gender para calon guru Bahasa Inggris baik itu untuk aspek kognitif, afektif, psychomotorik, maupun perspektif gender. Dengan kata lain, hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa tujuan utama dari Model pembelajaran ini untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, membentuk sikap, perilaku, dan merubah perspektif dengan meleibatkan mahasiswa dalam menganalisa masalah berhasil dengan dengan baik. Dengan demikian, hasil penelitian ini merekomendasikan bahwa Model MPBIPG yang menggunakan sintaks PBL dapat dijadikan sebagai model pembelajaran alternatif untuk menanankan karakter kepada peserta didik, khusus dalam hal ini di pendidikan tinggi;---English learning is always identified with the learning that only focuses on transferring skill and knowledge of English. In order to support Character Education Program initiated by the government, there should be a serious effort to integrate values in English learning was carried out. This study is an effort to develop an English Language Learning model which not only can transfer English related skills and knowledge, but also can transfer values, particularly, for this context, gender awareness. To achieve the goal, an Educational Research and Development method, or the so called R & D model was used here to developed Problem-Based Learning syntax become a Gender Perspective-Based English Language Learning Model, the one that can promote the gender awareness of students. This developmental study took place in UIN Ar-Raniry. The subjects of the study were all pre-service English teachers from English Language Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of UIN Ar-Raniry in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. To see the effectiveness of the model a Two Way Anova was used. The major finding showed that there was an increase of gender awareness in both experiment and control classes, for cognitive, affective, psychomotor and perspective aspects. However, when being compared, it was found that the increase of the experimental class was much bigger. The significance test also showed that there was a significant increase of students' gender awareness in the experimental classes for all aspects (cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and gender perspectives) as a result of learning by using of the Model. This suggests that the Model is far more effective in increasing the gender awareness of prospective teachers in terms of their cognitive, affective, psychomotor and gender perspectives. In other words, this suggests that the main purpose of this learning to improve knowledge, shape attitudes, behaviors and change perspectives by getting students to analyze problems and direct information works well. Thus, it is recommended that The Model using the syntax of PBL be used as an alternative learning model to instill the character of learners, especially in higher education.
