Abstract

Pendidikan karakter tidak hanya terdapat dalam kurikulum dunia pendidikan, tetapi juga di lingkungan masyarakat yang berbudaya. Salah satunya di komunitas Samin dimana masyarakatnya memiliki pendidikan karakter yang kuat. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi karakter-karakter yang dimiliki masyarakat Samin serta bagaimana mereka mengajarkan karakter tersebut kepada para generasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain penelitian “A Semi-Ethnographic study” yang di laksanakan di perkampungan Samin di Dusun Jepang, Jawa Timur. Diskusi dan analisa berdasarkan teori grounded menghasilkan tiga poin utama yaitu; Pertama, kekuatan karakter yang dimiliki masyarakat Samin antara lain Gilih Gumanti, (gotong royong) dan kerukunan, toleransi, kejujuran, kesabaran, trokal, dan narimo (menerima). Karakter tersebut berasal dari ajaran Saminisme yang telah diajarkan secara turun temurun. Kedua, pendidikan karakter yang diberikan tidak hanya melibatkan orang tua dan anak, tetapi juga sesepuh. Ketiga, gaya pengasuhan yang diterapkan merupakan pengasuhan bersahabat tanpa memaksakan keinginan anak namun tetap terdapat suatu hukum sosial yang berlaku secara budaya. Gaya pengasuhan tersebut dianggap sesuai untuk memperkuat penanaman karakter dalam kepribadian individu masyarakat Samin. Pd, Ph.D. Character Education is not merely on the educational curriculum, but also in the cultural environment. One example is in Samin community where they have a strong character education. This study explored Samin communities’ characters as well as how they teach the characters to their children across generations. This study used qualitative research approach with A Semi-Ethnographic research design conducted in Samin community in Jepang sub-district, East Java. Analysis and discussion based on coding grounded theory produced three main points. First, character strengths in Samin community are Gilih Gumanti (mutual cooperation) and harmony, tolerance, honesty, patience, trokal (effort), and narimo (acceptance). Those characters came from Saminism that is passed down through generations. Second, the character education involves not only parents and children, but also the community leader. Third, they have a friendly and democratic parenting style with a component of social punishment that has been successful in preserving the community. This is considered suitable to strenghthen the implementation of character into individual personality in Samin community. Key words: Character Education, Samin community, parenting style
