Abstract

Pemaafan adalah seperangkat motivasi untuk tidak membalas dendam, meredakan dorongan memelihara kebencian, dan berusaha tetap menjalin hubungan yang baik dengan pihak yang telah menyakiti. Salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi pemaafan adalah empati. Empati ialah kemampuan seseorang dalam merasakan, menerima, menempatkan dan melibatkan diri pada perasaan atau pengalaman orang lain sehingga menimbulkan perasaan menghargai perasaan orang lain dan mengkomunikasikan sampai menunjukkan perilaku sungguh-sungguh mengerti perasaan orang lain. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengkaji seberapa besar kontribusi empati terhadap kecenderungan perilaku pemaafan peserta didik kelas VII dan VIII SMPN 8 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2018/2019. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode korelasi yang melibatkan 490 subjek penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kecenderungan umum pemaafan berada pada kategori sedang, dengan perolehan total skor tertinggi pada aspek motivasi penghindaran (avoidance motivations). Kecenderungan umum empati peserta didik berada pada kategori sedang, dengan perolehan total skor tertinggi pada komponen perhatian empatik (emphatic concern). Hasil pengujian korelasi menggunakan product moment pearson menunjukkan hasil p=0,000<0,05 yang artinya terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara pemaafan dan empati peserta didik. Hasil pengujian koefisien determinasi menunjukan empati berkontribusi sebesar 2,5% pada perilaku pemaafan. Temuan penelitian berimplikasi pada perlunya pengembangan perilaku pemaafan dan empati secara beriringan melalui layanan bimbingan dan konseling menggunakan teknik bimbingan kelompok. ;---Forgiveness is a set of motivations to not take revenge, to press down the urge to maintain hatred, and to try to maintain a good relationship with those who have hurt us. One factor that influences forgiveness is empathy, which is the ability of a person to feel, accept, place, and involve him/herself in the feelings or experiences of others and to communicate and even show behaviors indicating that s/he really understands the feelings of others. The research aims to examine the extent to which empathy contributes to the tendency of forgiving behavior of the seventh and eighth grade students of SMPN 8 Bandung of the 2018/2019 academic year. It adopted a quantitative approach with a correlational method, involving 490 research subjects. The results showed that the general tendency of forgiving was in the medium category, with the highest total score gain in the component of avoidance motivations. The general tendency of empathy was in the medium category, with the highest total score gain in the component of emphatic concern. Correlation test using Pearson product moment yielded a p = 0.000 <0.05, which means there was a significant correlation between the students’ forgiveness and empathy. The results of the coefficient of determination test show that empathy contributed 2.5% to forgiving behavior. The findings of the research have implications for the need to develop forgiving and empathic behaviors simultaneously through guidance and counseling services using group guidance techniques.
