Abstract

Kecombrang (Etlingera elatior) adalah salah satu tanaman dari suku Zingiberaceae yang banyak tersebar di Indonesia. Tanaman ini umumnya dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pangan maupun bahan obat oleh masyarakat. Hal ini disebabkan karena kecombrang memiliki kandungan antioksidan yang dapat melindungi tubuh dari radikal bebas. Siklofosfamid yang merupakan obat anti kanker memiliki sifat imunosupresif, namun juga memiliki efek samping berupa toksisitas pada beberapa organ tubuh, diantaranya organ reproduksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh dari ekstrak bunga kecombrang terhadap bobot testis dan kualitas sperma mencit yang meliputi jumlah dan abnormalitas sperma. Metode penelitian ini berupa Rangkaian Acak Lengkap (RAL) menggunakann 36 ekor mencit jantan yang dibagi menjadi enam kelompok (kontrol negatif, kontrol positif, dosis 5 mg/kg BB, dosis 10 mg/kg BB, dosis 15 mg/kg BB dan dosis 20 mg/kg BB). Mencit diaklimatisasi kemudian diinduksi dengan siklofosfamid 50 mg/kg BB. Ekstrak kecombrang diberikan menggunakan jarum gavage selama 14 hari. Analisis statistik menggunakan uji One-Way ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dosis 15 mg/kg BB cenderung stabil dalam menjaga kualitas sperma. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak bunga kecombrang dapat memperbaiki kualitas sperma dan mengurangi efek samping dari siklofosfamid;---Kecombrang (Etlingera elatior) is one of the plants from Zingiberaceae family that widespread in Indonesia. Mostly people used this plant as a food and medicinal materials, this is because kecombrang contains antioxidants which is can protect body from free radicals. Cyclophosphamide is an immunosuppresive anti-cancer drug, but it has side effects in the form of toxicity in several organs, including the reproductive organs. This study’s purpose is to analyze the effect of kecombrang’s flower extract on mice’s testicular weight and sperm quality which includes sperm count and sperm abnormalities. Method that used in this study was a complete randomized series using 36 male mice which were divided into six groups (negative control, positive control, 5 mg/kg body weight, 10 mg/kg body weight, 15 mg/kg body weight and 20 mg/kg body weight). Mice were acclimatized and then induced with cyclophosphamide 50 mg/kg body weight, then treated with kecombrang’s flower extract for 14 days using gavage needles. Statictical analysis’s using One-Way ANOVA test. The results showed that the most stable dose to keep sperm quality is 15 mg/kg body weight. This study shows that kecombrang’s flower extract can affect sperm quality, in this study is fix sperm quality and reduce the side effect of cyclophosphamid on reproductive system.
