Abstract
Keberadaan Kabupaten Tanah Karo yang masih merasakan dampak erupsi dari Gunungapi Sinabung. Daerah yang rawan bencana perlu disosialisasikan kepada masyarakat, termasuk kepada peserta didik untuk meminimalisir resiko. Geografi mampu memberikan pemahaman bencana dan mitigasinya tetapi pada kenyataannya masih banyak korban jiwa dan kerugian materi yang disebabkan oleh erupsi Gunungapi Sinabung. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah survei dengan pendekatan kuantitatif menggunakan analisis regresi. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, studi dokumentasi, dan kuesioner. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada 154 peserta didik di tiga SMA yang berada dikawasan rawan bencana Gunungapi Sinabung, dengan tujuan (1) mendeskripsikan pemahaman peserta didik mengenai bencana gunungapi di Kabupaten Karo (2) mengkaji kontribusi pembelajaran geografi terhadap pemahaman peserta didik mengenai bencana gunungapi dan mitigasinya di SMA yang berada pada Kawasan Rawan Bencana Gunungapi di Kabupaten Karo. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Pemahaman peserta didik terhadap bencana gunungapi Sinabung dan mitigasinya termasuk kategori sangat tidak mampu, (2) Pembelajaran geografi memberikan kontribusi signifikan sebesar 52,3% terhadap pemahaman peserta didik mengenai bencana gunungapi dan mitigasinya dan sisanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain.----------The existence of the Tanah Karo Regency still feels the impact of the eruption from Mount Sinabung. Disaster-prone areas need to be socialized to the community, including students to minimize risks. Geography is able to provide disaster understanding and mitigation but in reality, there are still many casualties and material losses caused by the eruption of Mount Sinabung. The method used in this study is a survey with a quantitative approach using regression analysis. Data collected through observation, interviews, documentation studies, and questionnaires. This research was conducted on 154 students in three high schools in the area of Mount Merapi Sinabung disaster, with the aim of (1) describing students 'understanding of volcanic disasters in Karo District (2) examining the contribution of geography learning to students' understanding of volcanic disasters and their mitigation in SMA located in the Volcano Prone Area in Karo District. The results showed that: (1) Students 'understanding of the Sinabung volcano disaster and its mitigation were categorized as very poor, (2) Geography learning contributed 52.3% to students' understanding of volcanic disasters and their mitigation and the rest was influenced by factors other.
