Abstract

Pendidikan karakter dicanangkan kembali oleh pemerintah Indonesia. Hal ini diakibatkan oleh terjadinya degradasi moral dan karakter bangsa secara signifikan dan berkelanjutan. Penguatan pendidikan karakter dianggap perlu untuk dioptimalkan baik dalam perencanaannya, pelaksanaannya, serta evaluasinya. Terdapat tiga rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini, antara lain; apa yang mempengaruhi pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter di SMP Athalia Kota Tangerang Selatan?; bagaimana peran budaya sekolah dalam membentuk karakter peserta didik di SMP Athalia Kota Tangerang Selatan?; dan hambatan-hambatan dan solusi apa saja yang ditemukan dalam melaksanakan pendidikan karakter di SMP Athalia, Tangerang Selatan? Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah; untuk memberikan deskripsi tentang hal-hal yang mempengaruhi pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter di SMP Athalia Kota Tangerang Selatan; untuk memberikan gambaran tentang bagaimana peran budaya sekolah dalam membentuk karakter peserta didik di SMP Athalia Kota Tangerang Selatan; dan untuk mengetahui hambatan-hambatan dan solusi yang ditemukan pada pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter di SMP Athalia Tangerang Selatan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Tehnik pengumpulan data terdiri dari interview, observasi dan dokumentasi. Data penelitian dianalisa dengan tehnik reduksi data, penyajian data, verifikasi dan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kerjasama pihak sekolah dengan orang tua siswa sangat berpengaruh bagi pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter di SMP Athalia Tangerang Selatan. Selain itu, program-program sekolah juga memberikan dampak yang sangat besar terhadap pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter di sekolah tersebut. Peran budaya sekolah sangat besar terhadap kesuksesan pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter di SMP Athalia Tangerang Selatan. Walaupun pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter sudah berhasil, beberapa hambatan masih ditemukan dalam pengembangan pendidikan karakter di SMP Athalia Tangerang Selatan. Hambatan-hambatan tersebut antara lain; peserta didik baru yang bukan lulusan SD Athalia belum paham dengan budaya sekolah, sehingga membutuhkan waktu dan tenaga ekstra untuk memahami budaya sekolah di Sekolah athalia. Beberapa orangtua siswa belum dapat bekerjasama dengan maksimal dalam pendidikan karakter siswa. Perbedaan latar belakang agama siswa berdampak pada sulitnya pengembangan karakter religius dengan satu persepsi keagamaan. Dengan demikian, penulis merekomendasikan budaya sekolah untuk diterapkan dalam pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter, khususnya di sekolah menengah pertama. Pihak sekolah juga harus melakukan pendekatan yang efektif untuk bisa bekerjasama dengan orang tua siswa terkait dengan pendidikan karakter. Penerapan pendidikan karakter hendaknya dapat dipertahankan oleh pihak yayasan, sekolah, guru, karyawan, siswa dan orangtua bahkan dapat di tingkatkan lagi.; Character education is proclaimed by the government of Indonesia. Continuous and significant moral and character degradation becomes the reason of the action. Strengthening character education is considered important to be optimized in planning, implementation, and evaluation. There were three research problems; what affect the implementation of character education in SMP Athalia South Tangerang?; how the school culture’s role in building students’ character at SMP Athalia South Tangerang?;and what difficulties faced in developing character education in SMP Athalia South Tangerang? This research was aimed at; describing factors affecting the character education development at SMP Athalia South Tangerang; describing how the school culture’s role in the development of character education at SMP Athalia South Tangerang; and finding out the difficulties faced in character education development at SMP Athalia South Tangerang. The researcher used qualitative research method by applying case study approach. The data collection techniques consisted of interview, observation, and documentation. The data analyses used were data reduction, data presentation, verification and drawing conclusion. Based on the result of the research, she found that the partnership between school party and students’ parents significantly affected the implementation of character education at SMP Athalia, South Tangerang. Moreover, school programs also significantly affected the success of character education development at SMP Athalia South Tangerang. Even though the development of character education at SMP Athalia was successful, there were some difficulties faced. The first difficulty faced was that a number of students who are not graduated from Athalia Elementary School (SD Athalia). The students have not understood the school culture and they need extra time and effort to adapt to the culture of Athalia School. A few parents could not fulfil the partnership well as expected by the school party in case of character education development. Another problem faced was the background difference of religion and belief as Athalia School is a Christianity-oriented school. Teachers felt difficult to equalize the perception among the students. Therefore, the researcher recommends that school culture should be implemented to develop character education to the students especially to junior high school students. School party must find a breakthrough in case of building a better partnership with the students’ parent so that they can totally collaborate for a better character education development. Character education implementation should be continuously done and improved by the foundation party, school managers, teachers, officials, staff, students, and students’ parents.
