Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kurang tersedianya buku ajar kimia SMK yang sesuai dengan kurikulum yang berlaku, relevan dengan konteks kejuruan, layak dan mudah dipahami siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan buku ajar ikatan kimia yang layak, mudah dipahami dan relevan dengan kebutuhan siswa SMK teknik konstruksi dan properti melalui Four Steps Teaching Material Development (4S TMD). Penelitian ini menerapkan metode penelitian pengembangan dengan model 4S TMD yang terdiri atas tahap seleksi, strukturisasi, karakterisasi, dan reduksi didaktik. Partisipan penelitian ini terdiri dari dua orang ahli pendidikan kimia, tiga orang guru kimia SMK dan 146 orang siswa SMK teknik konstruksi dan properti. Objek penelitian berupa buku ajar ikatan kimia untuk siswa SMK teknik konstruksi dan properti. Instrumen yang diterapkan terdiri dari format validasi setiap tahapan model 4S TMD, kelayakan dan keterbacaan buku ajar. Teknik analisis data dilakukan secara kualitatif dan semi-kuantitatif. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) terseleksinya konsep-nilai/keterampilan terkait materi ikatan kimia yang urgen dan relevan; terbentuknya struktur penyajian materi ikatan kimia; teridentifikasinya teks yang masih tergolong sulit dipahami dan tersusunnya langkah-langkah reduksi didaktik untuk mengurangi tingkat kesulitan setiap teks yang terdapat dalam draft buku ajar (2) berdasarkan kriteria kelayakan buku ajar menurut Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan (BSNP), buku ajar yang dikembangkan menunjukan kelayakan isi (93,0%), penyajian (88,8%), kebahasaan (90,5%) dan kegrafikaan (91,8%); dan (3) buku ajar yang dikembangkan masih sulit dipahami oleh siswa SMK teknik konstruksi dan properti atau tergolong kategori buku ajar frustasi (37.0%). ABSTRACT This research is motivated by the lack of vocational high school chemistry textbooks which are corresponding to the applicable curriculum, relevant to the vocational context, feasible and comprehensible for students. This research objectives to develop the chemical bonding textbook which is feasible, comprehensible and relevant to the needs of vocational high school students of architectural/civil engineering through Four Steps Teaching Material Development. This research uses developmental research method with 4S TMD model which is consist of selection, structurisation, characterization, and didactical reduction steps. The participants of this research consist of two chemical education experts, three chemistry teachers of vocational high school and 146 vocational high school students of architectural/civil engineering. The object of research is the chemical bonding textbook for vocational high school students of architectural/civil engineering. The applied instrument consist of a validation format for each stage of 4S TMD model, feasibility and readability of the textbook. Data analysis techniques are carried out qualitatively and semi-quantitatively. The findings of this research indicate that (1) the selection of concept-value/skill related to chemical bonding that are urgent and relevant; the formation of presentation structure of chemical bonding; the identified texts which are still difficult to comprehend and the compilation of didactical reduction steps to reduce the level of difficulty of each text required in the draft textbook (2) based on the textbook feasibility criteria according to BSNP, the developed textbook indicate that content (93.0%), presentation (88.8%), linguistic (90.5%) and graphic (91.8%) feasibilities; and (3) the developed textbook is still difficult to comprehended by vocational high school students of architectural/civil engineering or it is classified as frustration textbook category (37.0%).
