Abstract

The purpose of this research are; 1) To find out which improvement in mathematical literacy skills is higher between students learning with the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create) learning model and students learning with the Discovery learning learning model; 2) To find out the response of students towards the learning of mathematics using the RADEC learning model. To achieve these goals, the quasi-experimental research method is applied, wihich includes the nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group research design within. The population in this research were all eighth grade students in one of the state junior high schools in Bandung in the academic year 2018/2019, which are using a sample of two classes consisting of 30 students. One class as an experimental class applying the RADEC learning model and another class as a control class applying the Discovery learning model. The material discussed in both classes is the material of number pattern. The instruments used were test instruments and non-test instruments in the form of questionnaires. The results showed that; 1)Increasing the mathematical literacy ability of students who get learning with the RADEC learning model is significantly better than students who get Discovery learning model; 2)Students who involve in learning with RADEC learning model show a positive attitude.
