Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya keterampilan proses sains siswa kelas V pada pembelajaran IPA. Hal ini dikarenakan proses pembelajaran tidak banyak melibatkan siswa secara aktif, kurangnya diskusi dan lebih banyak menggunakan metode penugasan. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, maka upaya mengatasinya melalui penerapan model POE (Predict Observe Explain). Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan model POE pada pembelajaran IPA dan mengetahui peningkatan keterampilan proses sains. Metode yang digunakan yaitu penelitian tindakan kelas dengan mengadaptasi model Kemmis Taggart dengan 2 siklus. Subjek penelitian yaitu 25 siswa kelas V di salah satu SDN Kota Bandung. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan soal tes keterampilan proses sains dan pedoman observasi. Data kualitatif dianalisis menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman, yang terdiri dari reduksi data, klasifikasi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Data kuantitatif dianalisis menggunakan analisis statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pelaksanaan pembelajaran IPA dengan menerapkan model Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) dapat meningkatkan keaktifan siswa dalam aktivitas belajar melalui tahap memprediksi dimulai dari fenomena yang ada, tahap mengamati dengan melakukan langsung percobaan dan tahap mengkomunikasikan siswa berdiskusi untuk membandingkan hasil dari proses pengamatan dengan prediksi yang telah dibuat. Hal ini berdampak pada peningkatan rata-rata skor secara kelompok di siklus I 13 dan siklus II 17, rata-rata skor individu di siklus I 60 dan siklus II 76 sedangkan untuk ketuntasan keterampilan proses sains secara individu di siklus I 76% dan siklus II 92%. Dengan demikian, penerapan model POE dapat meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains siswa kelas V.; This research is motivated by the low science process skills of class fifth students in science learning. The learning process does not involve students actively, lacks discussion and uses more assignment methods. Based on these problems, efforts to overcome them through the application of the POE (Predict Observe Explain) model. The purpose of this study is to describe the application of the POE model in science learning and to know the improvement of science process skills. The method used is classroom action research by adapting the Kemmis Taggart model with 2 cycles. The research subjects were 25 fifth grade students in one of the Elementary School in Bandung City. The instrument of data collection uses test questions of science process skills and observation guidelines. Qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman models, which consisted of data reduction, data classification, data presentation, drawing conclusions and verification. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed that the implementation of science learning by applying the Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) model can increase students activeness in learning activities through predicting stages that must depart from existing phenomena, the stage of observing students doing direct experiments and the stage of communicating students should discuss to compare results from the process of observation with predictions that have been made. This results in an increase in the average score in groups in cycle I 13 and cycle II 17, the average score of individuals in cycle I 60 and cycle II 76 while for completeness of science process skills individually in cycle I 76% and cycle II 92 %. Thus, the application of the POE model can improve the science process skills of class fifth students.
