Abstract

Latar belakang dari penelitian ini adalah masih rendahnya kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa kelas IV sekolah dasar. Pada pembelajaran sebelumnya siswa hanya difokuskan untuk menerima informasi yang diberikan oleh guru dan kurang melibatkan siswa untuk menemukan konsep matematikanya sendiri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan pelaksanaan pembelajaran dan peningkatan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa pada materi pengolahan data dengan menerapkan pendekatan Realistic Mathemathics Education (RME). Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model penelitian yang diadaptasi dari model Kemmis & Taggart. Penelitian dilaksanaakan dalam dua siklus dengan subjek penelitian berjumlah 36 siswa dari salah satu SD Negeri di Kota Bandung yang memiliki kemampuan dan karakteristik yng berbeda-beda. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan menerapkan tiga prinsip pendekatan RME, yaitu: 1) didactical phenomenology, 2) self developed models, 3) guided reinvention. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh peningkatan pemahaman konsep matemtais siswa pada siklus I sebesar 61% dengan nilai rata-rata 67,70 dan meningkat pada siklus II sebesar 86% dengan nilai rata-rata 79,23. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan penerapan pendekatan RME dapat meningkatkan pemhaman konsep matematis siswa. Kata kunci: pendekatan RME, pemahaman konsep matematis ----------- The background of this research is the low ability to understand the mathematical concepts of fourth grade students in elementary school. In previous learning students only focused on receiving information provided by the teacher and less involving students to discover their own mathematical concepts. The purpose of this research was to describe the implementation of learning and increase understanding of students' mathematical concepts in data processing material by applying the Realistic Mathemathics Education (RME) approach. The research method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a research model adapted from Kemmis & Taggart model. The research was carried out in two cycles with the research subjects totaling 36 students from one of the Elementary Schools in Bandung who had different abilities and characteristics. The research was carried out by applying the three principles of the RME approach, that is 1) didactical phenomenology, 2) self developed models, 3) guided reinvention. From the results of the study it was obtained an increase in the understanding of students' mathematics concepts in the first cycle of 61% with an average value of 67.70 and increased in the second cycle by 86% with an average value of 79.23. So that it can be concluded that the application of the RME approach can improve understanding of mathematical concepts of students. Key word: RME approach, understanding of mathematical concepts
