Abstract

Skripsi ini berjudul “Kiprah Politik Siauw Giok Tjhan dalam Memperjuangkan Hak Etnis Tionghoa di Indonesia Tahun 1954-1981”. Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan informasi mengenai upaya penyelesaian masalah Tionghoa di Indonesia dari sudut pandang etnis Tionghoa sendiri. Alasan dilakukannya penelitian ini lebih kepada kurangnya tulisan mengenai kiprah tokoh-tokoh etnis Tionghoa di Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode historis yang terdiri dari pengumpulan sumber, kritik sumber, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat dijelaskan bahwa pada tahun 1950-an etnis Tionghoa di Indonesia dihadapkan dengan dua permasalahan mengenai status kewarganegaraan dan kebijakan diskriminatif. Siauw Giok Tjhan pada tahun 1954 menjadi ketua umum Baperki (Badan Permusyawaratan Kewarganegaraan Indonesia) dan memperjuangkan hak etnis Tionghoa dalam aspek politik, ekonomi, sosial, dan menuntut persamaan sebagai Warga Negara Indonesia. Siauw Giok Tjhan aktif membantu etnis Tionghoa yang ingin memilih Warga Negara Indonesia, menyediakan sekolah-sekolah dan universitas untuk menampung anak-anak Tionghoa yang membutuhkan pendidikan, membela hak etnis Tionghoa dalam aspek ekonomi dengan melindungi kepentingan bisnis etnis Tionghoa. Setelah perjuangannya di Baperki terhenti Siauw Giok Tjhan aktif berjuang dengan menuangkan pemikirannya lewat buku-buku yang ditulisnya. Agar dapat diterima sebagai Warga Negara Indonesia, Siauw Giok Tjhan menganjurkan etnis Tionghoa untuk melakukan integrasi secara wajar ke dalam tubuh bangsa Indonesia. Melalui konsep integrasi wajar yang dianjurkannya, Siauw Giok Tjhan menanamkan kesadaran pada etnis Tionghoa tentang identitas keindonesiaannya. Siauw Giok Tjhan telah berhasil menjawab dan memenuhi tantangan serta kebutuhan etnis Tionghoa dengan membela kepentingan dan menyelesaikan masalah yang dihadapi etnis Tionghoa. Kata Kunci: Siauw Giok Tjhan, Etnis Tionghoa, Baperki, Integrasi ABSTRACT This paper is titled "Political Gait of Siauw Giok Tjhan in Fighting Chinese Ethnic Rights in Indonesia in 1954-1981". The purpose of this study is to obtain information about the efforts to resolve the Chinese problem in Indonesia from the perspective of the Chinese ethnic themselves. The reason to conduct this research is more about the lack of work about the role of Chinese figures in Indonesia. The method used is historical method which consists of resources collection, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Based on the results of the study, it can be explained that in the 1950s Chinese ethnic in Indonesia were faced with two problems, which regarded to their citizenship status and discriminatory policies. Siauw Giok Tjhan in 1954 became chairman of the Baperki (Consultative Body on Indonesian Citizenship) and championed the rights of ethnic Chinese in political, economic and social aspects and demanded equality as Indonesian citizens. Siauw Giok Tjhan actively assisted ethnic Chinese who wanted to elect Indonesian citizens, provided schools and universities to accommodate Chinese children in need of education, defending Chinese ethnic rights in economic aspects by protecting Chinese ethnic business interests. After his struggle at Baperki was stopped, Siauw Giok Tjhan was still actively fighting by pouring his thoughts through the books he wrote. To be accepted as an Indonesian citizen, Siauw Giok Tjhan advocated for Chinese ethnic to do a fair integration into the body of the Indonesian people. Through the concept of fair integration that he recommended, Siauw Giok Tjhan was able to instil awareness in the Chinese ethnic about his Indonesian identity. Siauw Giok Tjhan has succeeded in answering and fulfilling the challenges and needs of Chinese ethnic groups by defending their interests and resolving problems faced by Chinese ethnic.
