Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dan fakta masih rendahnya kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui: 1) apakah ada perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP antara yang memperoleh model Probing Prompting dengan model Problem Based Learning (PBL); 2) respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika dengan model Probing Prompting; 3) respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika dengan model Problem Based Learning (PBL). Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitiannya adalah non equivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII di salah satu SMP Negeri di Lembang, tahun pelajaran 2017/2018, selanjutnya diambil dua kelas sebagai sampel dari sejumlah kelas VII dengan teknik purposive sampling. Satu kelas sebagai kelas eksperimen 1 yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model Probing Prompting dan satu kelas yang lainnya menjadi kelas eksperimen 2 yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan menggunakan model Problem Based Learning (PBL). Pengumpulan data diperoleh dengan menggunakan instrumen tes berupa tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan instrumen non-tes berupa angket dan lembar observasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan dapat disimpulkan bahwa: 1) tidak terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP antara yang memperoleh model Probing Prompting dengan model Problem Based Learning (PBL); 2) respon siswa menunjukkan hasil yang positif terhadap implementasi model pembelajaran Probing Prompting pada pembelajaran matematika; 3) respon siswa menunjukkan hasil yang positif terhadap implementasi model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning (PBL) pada pembelajaran matematika.;--This study is motivated by the importance of students’ mathematical communication abilities and the fact of students’ poor mathematical communication skill. The purposes of this study are to know: 1) differences in the improvement of mathematical communication skill of junior high school students who learnt using Probing Prompting model to those who learnt using Problem Based Learning (PBL) model; 2) students’ response to Probing Prompting mathematics learning model; 3) students’ response to Problem Based Learning (PBL) mathematics learning model. The method used in this study is quasi-experiment with nonequivalent control group design. The population of this study is 7th grade students in one of public junior high schools in Lembang, Bandung, academic year 2017/2018. The samples are two classes of 7th grade students with purposive sampling techniques. One class as experimental class 1 who learnt using Probing Prompting model and another class as experimental class 2 who learnt using Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. Data collection was obtained by using test instrument in form of mathematical communication ability test and non-test instrument in form of questionnaires and observation sheets. Based on the result of the research and study, it can be concluded that: 1) there is no difference in the improvement of mathematical communication skill of junior high school students who learnt using Probing Prompting model to those who learnt using Problem Based Learning (PBL) model; 2) students’ response showed positive results on the implementation of Probing Prompting mathematics learning model; 3) students’ response showed positive results on the implementation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) mathematics learning model.
