Abstract

Pendidikan karakter berbasis budaya sekolah untuk memperkokoh jati diri bangsa selama ini belum mendapatkan perhatian yang memadai, meskipun lebih penting dan memiliki pengaruh besar pada keseluruhan kegiatan belajar mengajar. Kualitas pembentukan karakter peserta didik di sekolah tidak sematamata tergantung dari kualitas pembelajaran di kelas. Lebih dari itu, pendidikan karakter di luar kelas melalui budaya sekolah justru lebih efektif dalam membentuk karakter peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi pendidikan karakter berbasis budaya sekolah; metode pengembangan budaya sekolah dalam rangka pendidikan karakter; karakter yang terbentuk melalui budaya sekolah; dan respon peserta didik terhadap pendidikan karakter berbasis budaya sekolah untuk memperkokoh jati diri bangsa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian studi kasus dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMAN 5 Bandung, dengan partisipan kepala sekolah, guru dan siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah teknik triangulasi. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan (1) implementasi pendidikan karakter melalui budaya sekolah dilakukan melalui pembiasaan nilai-nilai karakter, keteladanan antar warga sekolah, melibatkan pemangku kepentingan pendidikan di sekolah, membangun dan mematuhi norma dan peraturan sekolah, mengembangkan keunikan dan keunggulan sekolah, kegiatan literasi dan ekstrakurikuler; (2) Metode pengembangan budaya sekolah dalam rangka pendidikan karakter melalui kegiatan rutin, kegiatan spontan, keteladanan, dan pengkondisian; (3) Nilai-nilai karakter yang terbentuk melalui budaya sekolah untuk memperkokoh jati diri bangsa yaitu karakter religius, nasionalis, mandiri, gotong royong, dan integritas; (4) Respon peserta didik positif terhadap pendidikan karakter berbasis budaya sekolah melalui kegiatan rutin, spontan, keteladanan dan pengkondisian. Pembentukan budaya sekolah dengan merepresentasikan nilai-nilai karakter yang dilandasi kelima sila Pancasila dapat memperkokoh jati diri bangsa. School culture based character education to strengthen national identity has not yet received adequate attention, although it is more important and has a major influence on the overall teaching and learning activities. The quality of character formation of students in schools is not solely dependent on the quality of learning in the classroom. Moreover, character education outside the classroom through school culture is actually more effective in shaping the character of students. This study aims to describe the implementation of school culture based character education; methods for developing school culture in the context of character education; characters formed through school culture; and the response of students to school culture based character education to strengthen national identity. This research is a case study using a qualitative approach. This research was conducted at SMAN 5 Bandung, with school principals, teachers and students. Data is collected through interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis technique used is the triangulation technique. Research findings show (1) the implementation of character education through school culture is done through habituating character values, exemplary among school members, involving stakeholders in school education, building and adhering to school norms and regulations, developing school uniqueness and excellence, literacy and extracurricular activities ; (2) Methods of developing school culture in the context of character education through routine activities, spontaneous activities, exemplary, and conditioning; (3) Character values formed through school culture to strengthen national identity, namely religious, nationalist, independent, mutual cooperation, and integrity; (4) Positive student response to school culture based character education through routine, spontaneous, exemplary and conditioning activities. The formation of school culture by representing character values based on the five principles of Pancasila can strengthen national identity.
