Abstract

Pemadatan tanah merupakan salah satu metode untuk memperbaiki sifat tanah. Pengujian laboratorium diperlukan untuk menentukan kadar air optimum dan kepadatan maksimum tanah yang perlu dicapai di lapangan. Uji pemadatan di laboratorium memerlukan jumlah tanah yang banyak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengurangi penggunaan sampel tanah pada pengujian kompaksi dengan mengurangi ukuran mold kompaksi. Tanah yang digunakan pada penelitian ini berjenis lanau kelempungan dengan plastisitas tinggi yang berasal dari kecamatan Terbanggi Besar, Lampung Tengah. Pengujian kompaksi dilakukan dengan memodifikasi dimensi mold dari 4 inci (10.16 cm) menjadi 3.5 inci (8.89 cm), 3 inci (7.62 cm), 2.5 inci (6.35 cm) dan 2 inci (5.08 cm). Energi pemadatan yang digunakan berdasarkan energi Standard Proctor dan energi Modified Proctor. Tanah yang sudah mengalami pemadatan diuji kuat gesernya menggunakan pengujian Triaxial UU. Nilai berat isi kering tanah berdasarkan pengujian kompaksi Standard Proctor dan Modified Proctor cenderung stabil dengan rentang sebesar 1.73 – 1.76 gr/cm3 dan 1.88 – 1.93 gr/cm3. Hal serupa ditunjukan oleh nilai kadar air optimum yang berada dalam rentang 18.4 – 18.9% dan 14.6 – 15.3 %. Berdasarkan pengujian Triaxial UU terdapat penurunan nilai kohesi, kuat geser dan modulus E jika dimensi mold diperkecil. Meskipun nilai sudut geser dalam cenderung tetap. Mold berukuran 3 inci dapat digunakan digunakan sebagai pengganti dalam pengujian kompaksi apabila sampel tanah tidak cukup untuk dilakukan pengujian kompaksi menggunakan mold berukuran 4 inci.---- Soil compaction is one of several methods in improving soil characteristic. Compaction laboratory test is needed to determine optimum water content and maximum dry density of the soil. Compaction laboratory test requires large amount of soil samples. This research aims to decrease the amount of sample used in compaction test by reducing the mold dimension. The soil sample used in this research is clayey silt soil with high plasticity from sub-district Terbanggi Besar, Lampung Tengah. The compaction test is done by modifies mold dimension from 4 inch (10.16 cm), to 3.5 inch (8.89 cm), 3 inch (7.62 cm), 2.5 inch (6.35 cm), and 2 inch (5.08 cm). Compaction energy was using the energy from Standard Proctor and Modified Proctor. Shear strength parameters are determined by Triaxial UU test using the sample that have been compacted. The maximum dry density values that is obtained by compaction standard proctor and modified proctor test tends to be stable within the range around 1.73 – 1.76 gr/cm3 and 1.88 – 1.93 gr/cm3. Similar exhibit shown for the optimum water, in which the content is ranging around 18.4 – 18.9% and 14.6 – 15.3%. Based on Triaxial UU test, a few parameters such us cohesion, shear strength and modulus E value are decreased when using smaller size of compaction mold. Even though the value of internal friction angle tends to be constant. The 3 inch mold can be used as an alternative mold on soil compaction test when the soil sample is not sufficient for 4 inch mold.
