Abstract

Kesadaran diri merupakan kemampuan individu dalam mengenal diri dan memahami emosi, perilaku, dan sikap dalam situasi tertentu serta menyadari bahwa perasaan yang ditampilkannya akan memiliki pengaruh terhadap komunikasi dengan orang lain. Individu tersebut mampu mengambil suatu keputusan dengan mempertimbangkan resiko dan bertanggung jawab terhadap keputusan tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membandingkan tingkat kesadaran diri peserta didik SMP di desa, perbatasan, dan kota. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, metode deskriptif, dan desain komparatif. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap 865 peserta didik kelas VII, VIII, dan IX di salah satu SMP Negeri di desa, perbatasan, dan kota yang berada di Wilayah Sukabumi. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan yaitu mengadaptasi dari The Self Consciousness Scale: A Revised Version For Use With General Population (Scheier, Michael & Charles S. Carver, 1985). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Peserta didik di SMP desa memiliki kesadaran diri lebih rendah daripada peserta didik di SMP perbatasan dan kota. Selanjutnya, peserta didik di SMP perbatasan memiliki kesadaran diri lebih tinggi daripada peserta didik di SMP desa, namun, memiliki kesadaran diri lebih rendah daripada peserta didik di SMP kota. Sementara itu, peserta didik di SMP kota memiliki kesadaran diri lebih tinggi daripada peserta didik di SMP perbatasan dan SMP desa. dan (2) Terdapat perbedaan kesadaran diri yang signifikan pada peserta didik di SMP desa, perbatasan, dan kota . ----- Self-awareness is the ability of individual to know about himself; understand emotions, behaviors, and attitudes in certain situations; and to realize that the feelings influence individual’s communication to others. The individual is capable to take a decision by considering the risk and responsible to his decision. The purpose of this research is to compare the level of self-awareness of junior high school students in the village, the border, and the city. This research uses quantitative approach, descriptive method, and comparative design. This research is conducted toward 865 students at VII, VIII, and IX grade in one of State Junior High School. The schools are located in the village, the border, and the city at Sukabumi. The research instrument is adapted from The Self Consciousness Scale: A Revised Version For Use With General Population (Scheier, Michael & Charles S. Carver, 1985). The results are: (1) Junior High School students in the village have lower self awareness than the students in the border and the city. Then, Junior High School students in the border have higher self awareness than the students in the village. However, they have lower self awareness than the students in the city. Meanwhile, Junior High School students in the city have the highest self awareness than the students in the border and the village. (2) There is a significant difference of self-awareness of the Junior High School students in the village, the border, and the city
