Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil model mental siswa pada sub-materi sel elektrolisis. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode deskriptif dengan instrumen berupa tes diagnostik model mental predict-observe-explain (TDM-POE). Subjek penelitian ini berjumlah 102 siswa kelas XII di salah satu SMA di kota Bandung yang telah mempelajari sub-materi sel elektrolisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa pada level makroskopik sudah mampu menuliskan produk yang dihasilkan dalam sel elektrolisis sesuai dengan pengamatan video percobaan. Namun, sebagian besar masih keliru dalam menjelaskan prosesnya pada level submikroskopik. Sedangkan dalam perhitungan jumlah produk yang dihasilkan menggunakan hukum Faraday kebanyakan siswa sudah mampu menyelesaikannya dengan melibatkan level simbolik saja. Persentase siswa yang mampu mempertautkan ketiga level representasi yaitu, 8,33% pada konsep sel elektrolisis lelehan, 0% pada konsep sel elektrolisis air, 13,79% pada konsep sel elektrolisis larutan dengan elektroda inert, 21,74% pada konsep sel elektrolisis larutan dengan elektroda aktif, 0% pada konsep elektrorefining dan 10,34% pada konsep elektroplating.;---The purpose of this study was to obtain a profile of students' mental models in Sub-material-electrolysis cells. The method used in this research was descriptive method with instruments TDM-POE. The subject of this research consisted of 102 students of class XII in one high school in Bandung who have studied electrolysis cells. The results of this study indicate that most students at the macroscopic level has been able to write the products in the electrolysis cell in accordance with video observation experiments. However, most still mistaken in explaining the process at the submicroscopic level. Whereas in the calculation of the number of products using Faraday's law, most students have been able to finish involving symbolic level. The percentage of students who were able to connected three levels of representation, is, 8.33% on the concept of a melt electrolysis cells, 0% on water electrolysis cell concept, 13.79% on the concept of a solution electrolysis cell with inert electrodes, 21.74% in the electrolysis cell concept solution with active electrode, 0% on the concept elektrorefining and 10.34% on the concept of electroplating.
