Abstract

Model mental adalah penyimpanan pengetahuan awal atau dasar yang belum akurat dan lengkap yang muncul berdasarkan pengalaman sebelumnya kemudian dapat berkembang apabila seseorang dapat meningkatkan pengetahuannya melalui proses kognisi. Model mental seseorang dapat diubah atau dimodifikasi melalui proses pembelajaran. Oleh sebab itu tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengujicobakan strategi Predict Observe Explain (POE) terhadap perubahan model mental siswa kelas V pada materi cahaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain kuasi eksperimen. Populasi penelitian ini ialah siswa kelas V segugus Jayagiri Kecamatan Lembang. Sementara itu, sampel penelitian ialah siswa kelas V di salah satu sekolah dasar di gugus Jayagiri kecamatan Lembang. Adapun teknik pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara purposive. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan tes objektif. Sementara itu, instrumen yang digunakan berupa two tier test yang telah divalidasi secara empiris. Data dalam penelitian dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif dan inferensi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi Predict Observe Explain (POE) berpengaruh terhadap perubahan model mental siswa kelas V pada materi cahaya.;--- A mental model is an inaccurate and complete storage of basic or incomplete knowledge that arises from previous experience and can then develop if one can increase knowledge through the process of cognition. A person's mental model can be changed or modified through the learning process. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to test Predict Observe Explain (POE) strategy to change the mental model of fifth grade in material of "Cahaya" or light. This research used quantitative research method with quasi experimental design. Population in this research were fifth grade of Jayagiri village, Lembang Subdistrict. The sample of this research was class V students in one of the elementary schools of Lembang sub-district. The sampling technique was done purposively. Data collection techniques in this study were objective tests. Meanwhile, the instrument used was a two tier test that has been empirically validated. The data in the study was analyzed with descriptive and inference statistic. Result in this research shows that Predict Observe Explain (POE) strategy has effect on the change of mental model of fifth grade in material of "Cahaya" or "Light".
