Abstract

Demikian juga kebijakan-kebijakan praktis perlu diimplementasikan guna mengajak mahasiswa untuk lebih peduli lingkungan.--------Ecoliteracy is very important in the condition of earth today, in which people who live in this earth are confronted with the increase of environmental challenge, including global climate change and the limitation of natural resource. Based on this, all people should have ecoliteracy competence, including student teacher. This study is aimed to analysis: (1) Ecoliteracy competence of student teachers; (2) The factors which become barrier and potency in enhancing students’ ecoliteracy; and (3) The influence of ecoliteracy competence to students’ global perspective ability. The method used is survey in eight study programs, with respondents consist of chair/secretary of program study, lecturers, and students. Data analysis is done by descriptive statistic and hypothesis test use pearson product moment correlation test. The result of study shows that (1) In general, student teachers in Universitas Syiah Kuala have ecoliteracy competence which fall in medium category; (2) Potency in an effort to increase the competence of the teacher candidate's ecoliteracy is the implementation of Environmental Science and Disaster Studies Course into the university's mandatory General Lecture since 2016. Constraints in increasing the competence of the students' prospective ecoliteracy is the absence of a policy to provide special budget for the provision of facilities environmentally friendly. Implementation of the curriculum is not optimal because educators only focus on aspects of knowledge and management of infrastructure facilities is also not optimal because it does not involve all the components of the campus in its management; (3) Ecoliteracy competence give positive and significant influence to global perspective ability. This means that the higher the competence of ecoliteracy, the higher the ability of global perspective. The finding of this study is that the comprehensive policy which had not existed from university or faculty cause the effort to enhance students’ ecoliteracy competence had not been optimal. Based on this, the head of university needs to make strategic policies in the effort to realize the green and eco- friendly campus. Similarly, the practical policies need to be implemented in order to encourage students to be more care about environment.
