Abstract

-------------------------- Research on diversity and distribution of birds was conducted at Bumi Perkemahan Ranca Upas (BPRU), Bandung District, West Java. BPRU is a camp ground area that have a function of tourism and conservation, so an inventory of animal data needs to be collected. Bird was selected because of its science was more well-known compared to the other taxa. The method was species discovery curve combined with roaming techniques. The study area was divided into two types of habitat: forest and non-forest habitat based on the differencies of canopy covert. Found 54 species of birds including the endemic birds and protected birds such as White-flanked sunbird (Aetophyga eximia), Crescent-chested babbler (Stachyris melanothorax), Rufous-tailed fantail (Rhipidura phoenicura), Javan grey-throated white-eye (Lophozopteros javanicus) and Javan trogon (Apalharpactes reinwardtii). The species of insectivorous birds were the most collected with 63% of the total species. Most of bird species was distributed in the forest habitat with 39 species of birds, this amount was included the species of protected birds as much as 5 species, endemic bird species as many as 10 species and one species of migratory bird.
