Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fakta di lapangan yang menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan beripikir kritis siswa masih rendah. Rendahnya kemampuan berpikir kritis tersebut karena siswa terbiasa menerima informasi yang instan dan rendahnya minat baca pada siswa. Tidak sedikit siswa melakukan aktivitas membaca hanya terbatas pada saat menjelang ulangan atau ujian. Maka dari itu, diperlukan suatu model pembelajaran yang memasukkan unsur membaca sehingga siswa memiliki kebiasaan membaca yang pada akhirnya dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa, salah satunya adalah model pembelajaran Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC). Secara umum tujuan penelitian ini untuk membandingkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan reading habit siswa yang menggunakan CIRC dengan pembelajaran langsung. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen, dengan populasi siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Sukasari Sumedang yang terdiri atas enam kelas dan diambil dua kelas sebagai sampel penelitian. Data diperoleh dari angket mengenai reading habit dan tes kemampuan berpikir kritis. Data tersebut kemudian diolah menggunakan bantuan Microsoft Office Excel dan software SPSS yang selanjutnya dianalisis secara kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan model CIRC pada kelas eksperimen dibandingkan dengan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran langsung pada kelas kontrol. 2) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran CIRC di kelas eksperimen dan pembelajaran langsung di kelas kontrol pada reading habit tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. 3) terdapat interaksi model pembelajaran CIRC dan reading habit terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis, Kata kunci: kemampuan berpikir kritis, reading habit cooperative integrated reading and composition, This research describes research is motivated by facts that students' critical thinking ability is still low. The low critical thinking ability is because students are accustomed to receiving instant information and low reading interest. Many students perform reading activities are limited to the time of the test. Therefore, it is needed a learning model that incorporates the elements of reading so that students have reading habits that ultimately can improve students' critical thinking skills, one of which is the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model. Generally, the purpose of this research is to compare critical thingking ability and reading habit between CIRC Class and Direct Instruction Class. The research method used is experiment, with population of students of class VII of SMP Negeri 1 Sukasari Sumedang consisting of six classes and taken two classes as research sample. Data were obtained from questionnaires about reading habit and critical thinking skills tests. The data is processed using Microsoft Office Excel and SPSS software with analyzed quantitatively. The results showed that: 1) there is a difference in the improvement of critical thinking ability of students who get learning with CIRC model in experimental class compared with critical thinking ability of students who get direct instruction learning in control class. 2) there is a difference of critical thinking ability of students who get CIRC learning in experimental class and direct instruction learning in control class on high, medium, and low reading habit. 3) there is interaction of CIRC learning model and reading habit on critical thinking ability.
