Abstract
Skripsi berjudul “Dampak Modernisasi Terhadap Kehidupan Masyarakat Kampung Benda Kerep Kota Cirebon Tahun 1980-2000” ditulis karena keunikan sikap masyarakat kampung tersebut yang menolak pengaruh budaya luar terutama pengaruh budaya Barat, akan tetapi pada kurun 1980-2000, pengaruh modernisasi telah berdampak pada beberapa aspek kehidupannya. Rumusan masalah yang diteliti diantaranya: 1) Bagaimana latar belakang kehidupan masyarakat Kampung Benda Kerep?; 2) Bagaimana modernisasi yang terjadi pada masyarakat Kampung Benda Kerep?; 3) Apa sajakah perubahan-perubahan di Kampung Benda Kerep sebagai akibat terjadinya modernisasi?; 4) Bagaimana usaha masyarakat setempat dalam menjaga keberlangsungan adat istiadat Kampung Benda Kerep? Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode historis yang meliputi proses pengumpulan sumber, kritik sumber, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Dalam pelaksanannya, metode tersebut ditindaklanjuti dengan teknik studi literatur atau studi pustaka dan teknik wawancara. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan membuktikan bahwa Kampung Benda Kerep berdiri sekitar tahun 1862 oleh Mbah Soleh di atas 33 hektar tanah Keraton Kanoman dengan niat untuk mendirikan tatanan masyarakat islami dan terbebas dari pengaruh budaya Barat. Ketika penelitian ini dilakukan, Kampung Benda Kerep tampak mempertahankan ajaran Islam, pondok pesantren, dan masih bercorak tradisional. Pada kurun 1980-2000, pembangunan infrastruktur listrik, penggunaan alat-alat teknologi modern, dan layanan pendidikan sekolah dasar telah mengubah sebagian gaya hidup masyarakat. Pada kurun tersebut, masyarakat setempat bukan saja mulai menggunakan listrik dan memakai alat-alat teknologi modern, melainkan juga mulai memasukkan anak-anaknya ke sekolah dasar. Meski begitu, masyarakat Kampung Benda Kerep masih mempertahankan adat istiadatnya, termasuk tetap menolak sejumlah sarana teknologi modern yang dinilai akan mengganggu tatanan masyarakat, antara lain tidak menggunakan televisi, radio, dan pengeras suara.,---The paper which is entitled "Modernization Impact on The Life of Kampung Benda Kerep Society of Cirebon in 1980-2000" was made because of the uniqueness of Kampung Benda Kerep society, that they reject the influence of foreign culture especially western culture, however between 1980 until 2000, modernization had gave them some influences in their life aspects. Research questions that were tried to be figured out were: 1) What is the background of Kampung Benda Kerep society's life?; 2) What is the modernization that occurred in Kampung Benda Kerep society?; 3) What are the impacts of modernization in Kampung Benda Kerep?; 4) What are the efforts done by the members of society to protect the inherited culture of Kampung Benda Kerep? Historical method was used as research methodology that covered the process of gathering resources, criticizing resources, interpretation, and historiography. In the implementation process, the research method was followed up with literature study and interview. The research shows that Kampung Benda Kerep was built around 1862 by Mbah Soleh in 33 hectares of land owned by Keraton Kanoman with an initial intention to build an Islamic society and free from western culture influences. At the times when the research was conducted, Kampung Benda Kerep seemed still having Islamic values, pesantren, and traditional values. Between 1980 until 2000, the development of electricity infrastructure, the using of modern tools, and elementary school service were changing some of society's life style. Within that time, locals were not only using electricity and modern tools, but also made their children attend elementary school. However, Kampung Benda Kerep Society still honored their traditional values and customs, including to reject some modern facilities that would seem interfere the society's systems such as not using television, radio, and sound amplifier.
