Abstract

Skripsi ini berjudul “Unifikasi Yaman: Proses Penyatuan Kembali Antara Yaman Utara dan Yaman Selatan Pada Tahun 1972-1990”. Hal yang melatarbelakangi penelitian ini adalah ketertarikan peneliti terhadap peristiwa sejarah yang terjadi di kawasan Timur Tengah, khususnya terhadap peristiwa sejarah yang terjadi di Negara Yaman. Masalah utama yang diangkat dalam skripsi ini adalah “Mengapa Unifikasi Yaman baru terjadi pada tahun 1990 ?”. Masalah utama tersebut kemudian disusun ke dalam empat pertanyaan pokok penelitian, yaitu (1) Bagaimana kondisi Yaman Utara dan Yaman Selatan sebelum terjadinya unifikasi? (2) Apakah penyebab konflik-konflik yang terjadi Yaman sebelum terjadinya unifikasi pada Tahun 1990? (3) Bagaimana proses terjadinya unifikasi antara Yaman Utara dan Yaman Selatan pada tahun 1990? (4) Bagaimana dampak dari proses unifikasi yang dilakukan oleh Yaman Utara dan Yaman Selatan terhadap keadaan politik dan ekonomi di Negara Yaman yang telah bersatu ? Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan dengan menggunakan studi literatur, kondisi Yaman Utara dan Yaman Selatan pada saat sebelum melakukan proses unifikasi pada tahun 1990 baik dalam aspek politik, sosial, ekonomi berada pada kondisi yang sangat buruk. Kondisi politik di Yaman Utara maupun Yaman Selatan yang selalu dilanda konflik, baik konflik internal maupun eksternal membawa pengaruh negatif kepada perekonomian dan kondisi sosial dari kedua negara Yaman tersebut. Perekonomian yang selalu tidak stabil di Yaman Utara maupun di Yaman Selatan membawa kedua negara Yaman tersebut menjadi negara yang selalu bergantung kepada bantuan ekonomi dari negara-negara besar seperti Arab Saudi, Amerika Serikat, dan Uni Soviet. Ketidakstabilan dua negara Yaman ini juga disebabkan oleh seringnya peristiwa kudeta yang membuat setiap kebijakan-kebijakan yang dikeluarkan oleh masing-masing pemerintah tidak berjalan dengan baik.Selain peristiwa kudeta yang selalu melanda kedua negara Yaman tersebut, perang yang melibatkan kedua negara Yaman sangat mempengaruhi hubungan kedua negara tersebut. Namun dibalik dampak negatif tersebut, perang yang selalu melibatkan kedua negara Yaman ini membawa pula dampak positif seperti dilakukannya perjanjian-perjanjian perdamaian serta hubungan kerjasama yang membawa kedua negara Yaman ini semakin dekat dengan proses unifikasi. Meskipun demikian, proses yang dilakukan dalam penyatuan kembali antara kedua negara Yaman tersebut, bukanlah proses yang mudah dengan waktu yang singkat, namun dilakukan dengan waktu yang sangat lama dengan beberapa kali melakukan perjanjian. Seringnya proses perjanjian dan hubungan kerjasama yang dilakukan oleh kedua negara Yaman, maka baru pada tanggal 22 Mei 1990 Yaman Utara dan Yaman Selatan melakukan penyatuan atau melakukan proses unifikasi. Setelah pelaksanaan proses unifikasi yang dilakukan kedua negara Yaman, konflik dan permasalahan baru timbul pada negara Yaman yang telah bersatu. Permasalahan yang timbul tersebut, disebabkan oleh ketidakadilan yang dilakukan oleh pemimpin Yaman bersatu sehingga menimbulkan Perang Saudara pada tahun 1994. Kata Kunci :unifikasi, yaman, perang dingin This thesis entitled "Unification of Yemen: Reunification Processof North Yemen and South Yemen In the year 1972-1990". The background for this study is researcher’s interest on historical events that occurred in the Middle East region, especially the historical events that occurred in the State Yemen. The main issues raised in this paper is "Why the unification of Yemen took place in 1990?". The main problem is then divided into four principal research questions: (1) What is the condition of North Yemen and South Yemen before the unification? (2) What are the causes of the conflicts that occurred prior to the unification of Yemen in 1990? (3) How does the process of unification between North Yemen and South Yemen occurs in 1990? (4) What is the impact of the unification process to the political and economic situation in Unified Yemen?Based on the results of research conducted by using literature study, the condition of North Yemen and South Yemen in the moments before the process of unification in 1990 both in terms of political, social, economy is in very bad condition. The political situation in North Yemen and South Yemen which is always conflicting, both internal and external conflicts bring negative influence to the economic and social conditions of the Yemeni state. Unstable economy in North Yemen and South Yemen Yemeni bring the two countries into a state that is always dependent on economic assistance from major countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United States and the Soviet Union.Instability of those two Yemeni state is also caused by frequent coups events that make any policies issued by the respective government is not going well. In addition to the events a coup which always struck both of the Yemeni state, a war involving the North and the South greatly affect relations between the two countries. But behind these negative impacts, war also bring a positive impact such as peace agreement and cooperation agreement between the two countries brought Yemen closer to the unification process. Nevertheless, the reunification process are not an easy process that could be done in a short time, but the process is very long and need a couple of times to the agreement to reach the unification. Frequent process of agreement and cooperation agreement between the two countries carried out by Yemen, on the date of May 22, 1990 North Yemen and South Yemen unified. After the implementation of the process of unification of the two countries of Yemen, conflicts and new problems arise in this newly unified country. The problems are caused by the injustice committed by the leader of unified Yemen, causing the Civil War in 1994. Key words : Unification, Yemen, Cold War
