    Abstract

    Kromium adalah salah satu pencemar bagi lingkungan yang dihasilkan oleh industri penyamakan kulit. Salah satu metode pengelolaan limbah yang efektif dan ramah lingkungan untuk mengurangi konsentrasi kromium pada limbah cair penyamakan kulit adalah fitoremediasi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas Vetiveria zizanioides sebagai agen fitoremediasi kromium pada limbah cair penyamakan kulit. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menempatkan Vetiveria zizanioides pada sirkulasi sistem vertikal dengan komposisi biomassa yang berbeda yaitu 200 gr, 400 gr, dan 800 gr. Waktu yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 10 hari. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fitoremediasi kromium dengan menggunakan Vetiveria zizanioides memiliki nilai efektivitas penurunan kromium yang tinggi yaitu sebesar 99, 80% pada biomassa 200 gr, 99,82% pada biomassa 400 gr dan 99,83% pada biomassa 800 gr. Selain itu tanaman Vetiveria zizanioides mampu memperbaiki kualitas air limbah dengan menurunkan nilai turbiditas dan meningkatkan kandungan oksigen di dalam air limbah. Tanaman Vetiveria zizanioides memiliki potensi yang baik sebagai agen dari fitoremediasi. Potensi tersebut tergambar dari anatomi tanaman yang tidak mengalami perbedaan atau kerusakan sebelum dan sesudah penelitian serta didukung oleh media tanaman yang digunakan pada sirkulasi sistem vertikal berupa sabut kelapa.;--- Chromium is one of the pollutants that produced by the tannery industry. One of the effective and environmental friendly waste management methods to reduce the concentration of chromium in tannery effluent is phytoremediation. The purpose of this research was to examine the effectiveness of Vetiveria zizanioides as the agent of chromium phytoremediation in tannery effluent. The research was conducted by placing Vetiveria zizanioides on the vertical circulation system with different biomass compositions which were 200 g, 400 g and 800 g. Time used in this research was 10 days. The results showed that chromium phytoremediation using Vetiveria zizanioides had a high value in the decline of chromium effectiveness which were 99,80% at the biomass of 200 g, 99.82% at the biomass of 400 g, and 99.83% at the biomass of 800 g. Besides, Vetiveria zizanioides was able to improve the quality of effluent by lowering the turbidity value and increasing the dissolved oxygen. Vetiveria zizanioides has good potential as the agent of phytoremediation. The potential is reflected from the anatomy of the plant that did not have any difference or damage of cell in before and after the research. That case was supported by coconut fiber that added to the media of the plant used in the vertical circulation system.
