Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan kegiatan praktikum berbasis kuantitatif yang dapat meningkatkan graphing skills siswa kelas X pada materi perubahan lingkungan. Hal ini dilatarbelakangi oleh tuntutan perkembangan biologi di abad 21 yang berkembang ke arah sains yang lebih kuantitatif. Salah satu dasar dari literasi kuantitatif adalah keterampilan membuat dan interpretasi grafik, yang dalam penelitian ini disebut graphing skills. Pada kenyataan di lapangan kegiatan praktikum biologi yang mengandung konten graphing skills masih jarang ditemukan, terutama pada materi perubahan lingkungan. Penelitian ini menggunakan Research and Development (R&D) model 4-D dari Thiagarajan. et al (1974), terdiri dari empat tahapan, yaitu pendefinisian (Define), perancangan (Design), pengembangan (Develop), dan penyebaran (Disseminate). Pada pelaksanaan penelitian ini hanya dilakukan sampai pada tahapan pengembangan. Pelaksanaan penelitian melibatkan 34 sampel siswa sebagai subjek. Penilaian keefektivitasan dari kegiatan praktikum hasil pengembangan menggunakan instrumen tes tertulis graphing skills; membuat dan interpretasi grafik. Hasil implementasi menunjukan bahwa kegiatan praktikum hasil pengembangan secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan graphing skills siswa dengan rata-rata gain sebesar 0,66, pencapaian rata-rata gain membuat grafik sebesar 0,67, dan rata-rata gain interpretasi grafik sebesar 0,57. Berdasarkan uji statistik, graphing skills berbeda secara signifikan melewati batas minimal yang ditetapkan (80). Setiap indikator dalam keterampilan membuat grafik mengalami kenaikan setelah diberikan kegiatan praktikum berbasis kuantitatif, begitupun juga untuk tingkatan interpretasi grafik (tingkat interpretasi dasar, menengah, dan menyeluruh). Dengan demikian pengembangan kegiatan praktikum berbasis kuantitatif materi perubahan lingkungan efektif dalam meningkatkan graphing skills siswa. ;---A study to development quantitative-based lab activities to increase students’ graphing skills 10th grade science program on concept of environmental change. This study is motivated by demands the development of biology in the 21st century that will continue to evolving towards a more quantitative science. Graph constructon and interpretation skill are perhaps the most basic aspects of quantitative literacy, which in this study is identify graphing skills. The reality in the field of biology lab activities that content graphing skills are still rare, particulary in the concept of environmental change. This study used Research and Development (R&D) method with model 4-D models from Thiagarajan. et al (1974), which consists of four stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate, but in study are performed only at develop stage. This study was carrid out with 34 student’s as subject. Assessment of the effectiveness of the development lab activities using the written test instruments graphing skills. The implementation result showed, this development quantitative-based lab activities can significantly increase students’ graphing skills, with average N-gain of 0,66, average N-gain graph contruction of 0,67 and graph interpretation of 0,57. Based on statistical test, graphing skills significantly different passed the minimum limit specified (80). Every indicator in graph construction skill have increased as well as also to the level of graph interpretation skill (elementary level, intermediate level, and overall level). It indicate that development quantitative-based lab activitites on concept of environmental change can effectively to increase students’ graphing skills 10th grade science program.
