Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran beban kognitif siswa pada pembelajaran materi sistem pernapasan menggunakan pendekatan inkuiri dalam usaha meningkatkan kemampuan literasi kuantitatif. Penelitian ini melibatkan siswa kelas XI di salah satu SMA di wilayah Kota Bandung. Subjek penelitian ditentukan secara purposif, yaitu dilakukan pada kelas yang menerapkan pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan inkuiri dan mengembangkan kemampuan kuantitatif. Beban kognitif diukur berdasarkan tiga komponen, yaitu ICL yang diukur berdasarkan kemampuan siswa dalam Menerima dan Mengolah Informasi (MMI), ECL yang diukur berdasarkan Usaha Mental (UM), dan GCL yang diukur berdasarkan Hasil Belajar (HB) siswa. MMI dijaring melalui jawaban siswa pada instrumen task complexity yang dibuat dalam pertanyaan pada lembar kerja siswa, UM dijaring melalui jawaban siswa pada lembar kuisioner (angket subjective rating scale) yang berisi tanggapan siswa selama pembelajaran berlangsung, dan HB diukur melalui skor jawaban siswa pada soal tes yang disesuaikan dengan indikator pembelajaran yang diberikan di akhir pembelajaran. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa MMI siswa termasuk kategori sangat baik (skor maksimal 3), UM siswa termasuk kategori sedikit kesulitan (skor maksimal 1), sedangkan untuk HB siswa dapat dikategorikan baik (skor maksimal 100). Berdasarkan uji korelasi pada masing-masing komponen beban kognitif yaitu MMI-UM, MMI-HB, dan UM-HB tidak didapatkan korelasi yang signifikan yang berarti tidak terdapat hubungan yang jelas diantara masing-masing komponen beban kognitif. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa masih adanya beban kognitif yang dimiliki siswa ketika melakukan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan pendekatan inkuiri dalam usaha meningkatkan kemampuan literasi kuantitatif siswa. ; The purpose of this research was to describe cognitive load of students during the learning process with inquiry learning strategies of the respiratory system to improve quantitative literacy skills. The research was doing on one class of senior high school in Bandung. Participants of this study determined by purposive sampling technique, which is on class who applying learning process with inquiry learning strategies to improve quantitative literacy skills. Cognitive load were measured with three components, ICL is measured based on students ability to receive and process the information (MMI), ECL is measured based on mental effort (UM), and GCL is measured based on learning outcomes (HB). MMI is measured based from task complexity instrument that arranged by questions on a worksheet. UM is measured from subjective rating scale questionnaire, which is containe students respone about learning process with inquiry learning strategies to improve quantitative literacy skills, and learning outcomes (HB) is measured based on test question. The analysis showed that MMI belong to the category of “very good” (maximum score is 3), UM belong to the category “a bit difficult” (maximum score is 1), and for students HB belong to the category “good” (maximum score is 100). Based on correlation result in each component of cognitive load are MMI-UM, MMI-HB, and UM-HB, not obtained significant result, which is there is no relations between each components of cognitive load. In general, the explain before showed there is still the cognitive load of students during the learning process with inquiry learning strategies to improve quantitative literacy skills.
