Abstract

;---Family is the main environment in creating parenting to the children's development. Parenting is a manifestation of parents’ responsibility before the children get to know other people and the environment. If the children continue to progress well, the children will always have the power within them. This research aims to enhance the development of expressive communication of visually impaired children in the parenting, develop expressive communication in the parenting, and guide the expressive language of the children. A qualitative approach and case study method were used in this study. The data collection techniques used were in-depth interviews, documentary studies, and field observations. Subject of the study were two parents of visually impaired children, two visually impaired children, and a teacher with a class of visually impaired children. This study used data triangulation as a means of data authenticity. Based on the results of the study, the researcher concluded that parenting applied by parents had a different effects on expressive communication development of children. Parents of CN apply permissive parenting which emphasizes compassion without limitation in the form of demands, after CN first raised by his aunt whose parenting style was permissive-indifferent, or parenting which is indifferent and had no patron or clear rules (frivolous) during the toddler period, so CN had a delay in communication which made him less expressive. Meanwhile, parents of AR apply democratic parenting, a parenting which provides the demand for the child as well as responsiveness to the will of the child so AR could adapt quickly despite the visual impairment was suffered when AR was 4 ½ years old. This study was recommended to parents, teachers and further research, that parents can be sensitive in determining the parenting style to be applied in accordance with the conditions of visually impaired children; can act as a driving force, mentor, motivator so that children can develop reasonably; and the subsequent researchers to be more observant to see the case of parenting with more unique background compared to a case that has been presented in this study.
