Abstract

Penelitian ini meneliti tentang penerapan pendekatan kontekstual. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui penerapan pendekatan kontekstual dapat meningkatkan keterampilan menulis karangan deskripsi pada siswa kelas IV sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh beberapa permasalahan yang dialami oleh siswa dalam menulis karangan deskripsi. Permasalahan tersebut didasari oleh data awal yang didapatkan dari hasil observasi yang menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki kesulitan dalam menuangkan ide ke dalam bentuk karangan dan siswa belum dapat menggunakan ejaan dan tanda baca dengan benar. Pelaksanaan penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode PTK (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas) dengan model penelitian spiral dari Kemmis dan Taggart yang dilakukan dalam tiga siklus dengan subjek penelitian siswa kelas IV SD di salah satu sekolah dasar di Kecamatan Coblong, Kota Bandung dengan mengambil data berjumlah 23 orang siswa. Hasil penelitian dari siklus I didapatkan rata-rata nilai keterampilan menulis karangan deskripsi siklus I sebesar 64,78 dengan tingkat ketuntasan 56,52%, rata-rata nilai keterampilan menulis karangan deskripsi siklus II sebesar 74,13 dengan tingkat ketuntasan 69,56%, dan rata-rata nilai keterampilan menulis karangan deskripsi siklus III sebesar 82,17 dengan tingkat ketuntasan 91,30%. Berdasarkan data tersebut, maka penerapan pendekatan kontekstual dapat meningkatkan keterampilan menulis karangan deskripsi siswa kelas IV sekolah dasar. Maka disarankan kepada guru kelas untuk selanjutnya dapat menerapkan pendekatan kontekstual pada pembelajaran yang mampu meningkatkan keterampilan siswa dalam menulis karangan deskripsi. --- This study examines the application of contextual approach. The purpose of this study to determine the application of contextual approach can improve the skills of essay writing descriptions of the fourth grade primary school students. This study is motivated by kind of problems experienced by students in writing essay description. The problem is based on the preliminary data obtained from the observation that shows that students have difficulty in expressing ideas in essay form and students could not use spelling and punctuation correctly. Study was conducted using the method of CAS (Class Action Study) with a study model of Kemmis’s spiral and Taggart carried out in three cycles with the subjects of fourth grade elementary school students in District Coblong, Bandung by taking the data amounted to 23 students. The results of the first cycle obtained an average value of essay writing skills description of the first cycle of 64.78 to the 56.52% level of completeness, the average value of essay writing skills description of the second cycle of 74.13 to the 69.56% level of completeness, and the average value of essay writing skills description of the third cycle of 82.17 to the 91.30% level of completeness. Based on these data, the application of contextual approach can improve the skills of essay writing descriptions of the fourth grade elementary school students. It is advisable to classroom teachers to subsequently be able to apply a contextual approach to learning that can improve student’s skills in writing essay description.
